Eaker, 86, of 108 Ware St., died Wednesday, May 5 ,2010 at Kings Moun- tain Hospital. He was born in York County, SC to the late Lafayette and Myrtle Cost- ner Eaker and was also pre- ceded in death by brothers Gerald Eaker, Ralph Eaker and Dick Eaker, and sisters Helen Warren and Averice Bridges. A member of El Bethel United Methodist Church, he served in the United States Marines during World War II and was retired from FMC Lithium Corporation, Besse- mer City. Manning McSwain, 85, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Pal- liative Care Center of Win- ston-Salem. She was born June 3, 1924 in Cherokee County, SC, the daughter of Marie Man - ning and | Verley Surratt. After the death of thier mother, Lucille and her two brothers, Franklin Louis Manning and William H. Manning, were cared for by their maternal grandfather, Giles Manning and maternal aunt, Hattie Roberts and her husband, Fulton. Lucille joined Concord Baptist Church at an early age, moved her membership to Ebenezer Baptist Church of Waco and upon moving to Kings Mountain joined Mount Zion Baptist Church. She served as a member of the Senior Choir, Golden Hearts, kitchen committee and Usher Board. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Society. Lucille married Wilbert McSwain April 16,1943, in Gaffney, SC. She required all of her children to ab- solutely do three things dur- ing their formative years: go to church, go to school and start working at an early age. Mrs. McSwain is sur- vived by her brother, Franklin L. Manning; sis- ters-in-law, Sarah Manning and Jennie Ruth Phillips; her children, Lawrence C. Mc- Swain and wife Vivian, Marie Jamerson and hus- band Robert, William A. McSwain, and wife Queen, Francis Leach (Donald-de- ceased), Ernestine Luckey and husband Perry, Fulton L. McSwain (Yvonne-de- ceased), Linda McSwain- Randall ~~ and husband Carnell, Janie Hardman and husband Lonnie, Robin Sims and hsuband Mason; 16 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Gold Street, died May 11, 2010 at Kings Mountain Hospital. - Martha was born Decem- ber 9, 1937 in Richmond County, NC, daughter of the late Joe Tate and Madge Es- kridge Melton. She was a homemaker and a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Wayne Melton and Kenneth Melton, and five sisters, Dorothy Martin, Betty Thompson, Sue Hill, Bobbie Berry and Mary Ruth Berry. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Sue Young of Kings Mountain; a brother Billy Melton and wife Gwen of Monroe, Con- necticut, Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at noon at Carpenter’s Funeral Home, Cherryville with Rev.
