The Revs. Tony Dowdy
and Luke Harkey officiated
the 6 p.m. ceremony. ~
Sherry Young, organist,
Andy Washburn, trumpeter,
and Ashley Ray, soloist, pre-
sented the program of nup-
tial music.
The bride was escorted
by her father and given in
‘marriage by her parents. She
wore a strapless gown of silk
satin featuring a drop waist
and chapel-length train en-
hanced by embroidery, crys-
tals and pearls. Her
fingertip-length veil was
trimmed in satin ribbon. The
bride’s bouquet was a Euro-
pean hand-tied arrangement
of Sahara and Akito roses,
white dendrobium orchids

and white hydrangeas, the
stems wrapped in silver

sister’s maid of “honor.
Bridesmaids were Emily Ed-
wards, Melissa Gray, Han-
nah Johnson, all of Kings
‘Mountain, Brittany Ramey
of Huntersville, and Jordan
Yokeley of Charlotte.
All the attendants wore
floor-length navy: strapless:
gowns and carried European
hand-tied bouquet arrange-
ments of white hydrangeas,
Lindsey roses, blue Iris,
white waxflowers and blue
Nigellias, the stems wrapped
in navy wire. ;
Honorary bridesmaids
were Mrs. Claire Torrence
and Mrs. Rebekah Wright,
both of Kings Mountain.

Mountain was the bride-
groom’s best man. Grooms-
men were Austin Allen, Ben
Godfrey, Josh Jones, all of
Shelby, and Clay Kerns of
Kings Mountain. Honorary
best man was Stephen Tor-
rence of Kings Mountain.
Program attendants were
Stephanie. Edwards and
Kaitlyn Still. The wedding
director was Mrs. Beth Mc-
Daniel.
Alyson is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde C. Kerns
of Kings Mountain. She is
the granddaughter or Mary
Ann Kerns and the late W.
D. “Johnny” Kerns and
Peggy S. Ramey and the late
Burris E. Ramey, Sr., all of
Kings Mountain. The bride
is a 2009 graduate of Ap-
palachian State University at
Boone with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Business
Administration with a Con-
centration in Accounting.
She is currently employed as
controller of Kerns Trucking
Inc. of Kings Mountain.
Joey is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. William A. Gray of
Shelby. He is a graduate of
Piedmont Community Col-
lege with a degree in survey-
ing and is-an NC and SC
licensed surveyor. He is self-
employed.
. A rehearsal dinner was
hosted by the bridegroom’s
family at Lake Montonia.
The bride’s family hosted
the outdoor wedding recep-
tion at their home in Kings
Mountain.
After honeymooning in
Key West, Florida, the new-
lyweds reside in Kings
Mountain.

honored Thursday
The Cleveland County
Commission for Women will
present this year’s “Distin-
guished Women* at its 19th
annual banquet at the Cleve-
land Country Club, 1360 E.
Marion St., at 6:30 p.m.,
Thursday, August 5.
Among this year’s hon-
ored women is Kings Moun-
tain Herald's Elizabeth “Lib”
Stewart, former state and na-
tional president of the Amer-
ican Legion Auxiliary and
former president of the
North Carolina
Women.
An avid advocate for .
breast cancer awareness and
long-time community ser-
vant, Stewart is a recipient of
the governor’s prestigious
Long Leaf Pine Award and
several other community,

state, national and interna-
tional accolades. Honored
for her nearly 50 years of
service at the Kings Moun-.
tain Herald and the Cher-
ryville Eagle and long
dedication to the world’s
largest women’s patriotic
service organization, Lib
was national president of the
American Legion Auxiliary
from 1999-2000 and as a
breast cancer survivor
pushed breast cancer aware-
ness throughout the nation
and foreign countries.
At the reception Thurs-
day night, she will join the
elite rank of “Distinguished
Women” along with three
other’ worthy candidates:
Sybil Dixon, retired educator
and poetry enthusiast;
Jeanne Patterson, advocate
for women and the home-
less; and, Suzette Ross, com-
munity activist and
organizer. :
The Cleveland County
Commission of Women so-
licited nominations from the
community to find these
Distinguished Women. After
reviewing the numerous ap-
plications that were submit-
ted, four were selected.
Members of the Commission

lace, Mitzi Johnson, Betsy
Wells, Linda Martin, Diane
Davis, Rosaline Hunt,

Birthday girl
Anna Byers, daughter of Jody
and Jane Byers of Kings Moun-
tain, celebrated her 8th birth-
day June 25 at Monkey Joes in
Gastonia. A decorated birthday
cake and party. refreshments
were served to eight children |
and friends and family. Anna is
granddaughter of Joyce and
Keith Hilliard of Kings Mountain
and Richard Byers of Grover.
She is a third grade student at
East Elementary School in
Kings Mountain.
