Edith “Edie” Wilson Carson
Lovell, 90, 1509 Shelby Rd.,
died Tuesday, September 21,
2010 at Alexandria Place,
Gastonia.
A native of Forsyth
County, NC, she was the
daughter of George Wash-
ington and Pearl G. Powers
Wilson and was widow of
the late Vernon Oscar Carson
and Ralph Lawrence Lovell.
She was also preceded in
death by three brothers,
George Wilson, Carl Wilson
and Woodrow Wilson and
one sister, Irene Collins.
A member of First Pres-
byterian Church in Kings
Mountain for 58 years, she
was owner and operator of
Edie’s Beauty Shop for 40
years and a Kings Mountain
Hospital Auxiliary volunteer
for 50 years. She was a lov-
ing mother and grandmother
who loved her church, cook-
ing and flowers.
Surviving are her son,
Vernon F. Carson and wife
Jo Carole of Gastonia; two
grandchildren, Tom Carson
and wife Karen of
Mocksville and Jodie Beck-
nell and husband Lee of Gas-

Kings Mountain Hospice
House. She was born in
Union County, SC, on Feb-
ruary 28, 1924, to the late
Roscoe and Martha McFalls
Smith.
The funeral service was
conducted by the Rev. Crys-
tal Childers at 11 a.m. Satur-
day, September 24, at True
Gospel Holiness Church in
Kings Mountain. Interment
was at Mountain Rest Ceme-
tery, Kings Mountain.
The family received
friends Friday evening at the
church.
Ruth retired from Sadie
Mill in Kings Mountain and
was a member of True
Gospel Holiness Church.
She is survived by her
son, William Knox and wife
Gertrude of Grover, SC;
daughters, Louise Eng,
Marie Helms and husband
Jerry, Doris McGinnis,
Angie Wingard, all of Kings
Mountain; brother, Isaac
Smith and wife Marcella of
Jonesville, SC; 15 grandchil-
dren; 19 great-grandchil-

great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in
death by her husband,
Robert McCutcheon; sister,
Pauline Lipsey; and broth-

ring of Dallas was driving-her
2004 Isuzu on I-85 and was
cut off by another vehicle, left
the highway onto the median
and struck the guardrail, over-
turning. Herring was trapped
in the car and removed by the
Fire Department and taken by
ambulance to Cleveland Re-
giondl Medical Center. Prop-
erty damages totaled $8,000.

Democratic headquarters opening
The Cleveland County Democratic Party will open ‘its
2010 Cleveland County Democratic Headquarters Friday,
Oct. 1, at 7:15 a.m. at 1230 East Dixon Boulevard in Shelby.
All candidates will participate in the opening.
KMHS Class of 1980 reunion
The Kings Mountain High School Class of 1980 will hold
a tailgate Party Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the KMHS park-
ing area before the KM-Shelby football game. Heavy hors
d’ oeuvres, sodas and water will be served. The charge is $10
per person (game admission is not included).
The class will hold its 30-year reunion from 7 p.m. to 1
a.m. at the American Legion in Kings Mountain, A DJ, heavy
hors d’oeuvres, sodas and water will be provided. The cost is

Annual BBQ Fundraiser
The Shriner’s Club will have its annual BBQ fundraiser
this Saturday, Oct. 2, on the lot in front of City Auto, near
the American Legion Post 155 hall.
Pie contest at the Cleveland County Fair .
The annual Pie Baking Contest at the Cleveland County
Fair will be held on Saturday Oct. 2. Entries will be accepted
from 9 thru 11 am in Dorton Hall. Judging will begin 11:30
am. There will be two divisions, Adult and Junior. All school
age children will be in‘the Junior Division, and anyone out of
high school must enter-the Adult Division. There are also two
categories, fruit pies and nut pies. One entry may be made in
each category. You may use a pastry crust or crumb crust, but
homemade. Pies should be baked in non-

Class of 1990 reunion
The Kings Mountain High School Class of 1990 will hold
a class reunion on Oct. 9 from 7 until 11 p.m. at Junction 309

Cornhole tourney
A Cornhole Tournament, in support of the Kings Moun-
tain Rotary Club’s Flight of Honor, will begin at 1 p.m., Sat-
urday, Oct. 16, at Junction 309 on Battleground Avenue,
downtown Kings Mountain.
Registration for the games will begin at noon, with games
starting at 1. The event is open to all. The first place winning
team will receive $350. The second place winner will net
$150.
Hot dogs and refreshments will be available and a chil-
dren’s tournament will also be held.

Bridges charged for break-ins
Aaron Jasper Bridges, 19, 301 Walker St., was arrested
by Kings Mountain Police Sunday and charged in weekend
break-ins of three Frito-Lay trucks and the snack food com-
pany’s office, 564 Waco Road, and the break-in of All Good
Pest Control, 518 N. Sims St.
Bridges faces two counts of felony breaking and entering,
three counts of felony breaking into vehicles and two counts
of misdemeanor larceny. He was jailed under $50,000 se- |
cured bond.
KMPD Ptl. M.J. Howard said a Black & Decker cordless
drill set, valued at $150, and a Dell computer valued at $500
were taken during the two business break-ins. The police re-
port listed $200 in damages to vehicle window glass.
Bridges was stopped by Officer B.C. McGinnis Sunday
morning at 5:32 a.m. and cited for revoked license and fail-
ing to drive on the right side of the road.
