Hound Continued from Page 6B Today, these canines are being used by hunters and loved by owners as far away as Japan. In addition to their strength, speed, courage and determina- tion, the Plott Hounds are beautiful. Often with a striped coat, known as a “brindle”, the dogs can appear with the col- ors of brown, black, yellow, © blueish gray, and buckskin. “Black Monday,” a black brindled Plott Hound was the first known to have won Best of the Breed at the Westmin- ster Dog Show. He has since been beaten by his own puppy “Capone”. Some people think that one of the early European prede- cessors of the Plott Hound could be the Hanoverian Schweisshund, Libby said. Asking the students if they had ever seen their birth cer- tificates, she showed them a Plott Hound’s — unrolling a nearly three-foot long poster of the pedigree (six generations). After sharing information about the breed and how Plott Hounds became a state sym- bol, she asked the students if they were ready to meet “Lucky”. The children cheered and yelled his name. And out “Lucky” ran, bay- ing for the crowd, with Rick in tow.
