Howze shoots record 61 at KMCC
King Mountain’s Gary Howze
had one of those days that most
golfers never have - and he will
never forget - Sunday at Kings
Mountain Country Club.
Howze toured the 18-hole, par
72 layout in 11-under-par 61 to set
a new course record. The previous
record of 62 was shared by many
individuals including his father,
John, and brother, Mitch.
Howze shot a 31 on the front
side and 30 on the back, with no
bogeys. He had seven birdies and
eagled holes one and ten.
He was playing in a foursome
with Rusty Bumgardner, Jared
Spicer and Jamie Case.
Howze’s previous low round
was a 63 which he shot at KMCC
several years ago.
“It was just one of those days,”
" Howze noted. “I putted the ball
extremely well and kept the ball in
play all day.”
Howze hit every club well, in-
cluding a demo driver he was try-
ing out.
“I started off each side well,”
he noted. “I made a couple of sav-
ing par putts. I holed the short
ones and I made some real long
ones that you get from time to
time.
“It was just one of those things
~ that came out of nowhere.”
