ciation (NCSLA).
The NCSLA coordinates
the regional and state com-
petitions. Local media spe-
_cialists and language arts
teachers serve as team
coaches and coordinate -the
Cleveland County “Battle of

Poor Man's Supper Satis at Westover
Westover Baptist Church, 114 Westover Dr., will sponsor
a Poor Man’s Supper Saturday beginning at 5 p.m. Plates are
$5 for adults, free to children under 12. The menu will fea-
ture pinto beans, fried taters, slaw, onions and cornbread. The
public is invited.
Resurrection Lutheran to celebrate
Resurrection Lutheran Church will celebrate its 60th an-
niversary Sunday, March 20, with a special worship service
followed by a catered luncheon.
After the luncheon, special guests will be recognized in-
cluding a number of former pastors and former members.
The public is invited to join the congregation in this celebra-
tion.
Resurrection Lutheran Church was formally organized on
March 18, 1951 in the Crescent Hill community of Kings
Mountain and occupied the current building on Crescent Cir-
cle later that year.
Lenten study
St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 201 North Piedmont Av-
~ enue, will begin on Wednesday, March 16, a 5-week Lenten
study of the petitions of the Lord's Prayer led by Pastor Peter
Setzer utilizing Luther's Small Catechism. The study, which
will run through Wednesday, April 13, will delve each

During the Sundays i in Lent, culminating with Easter Sun-
day, a "belled" version of the Lord's Prayer will be used dur-
ing the 11 a.m. worship service. The tolling of a single
handbell will mark the end of each petition before the con-
gregation continues by praying the next petition.
Each Wednesday evening service will begin with a soup
and sandwich supper at 6 p.m. provided by the various com-
mittees of the church, followed by the study of the Lord's
Prayer, and ending with a Service of Evening Prayer in the
nave which will draw to a close at 7:30. Visitors are welcome
to attend.
“Tell Me a Tale” camp
registration opening soon
Camp registration opens to the public next week for the
2011 “Tell Me a Tale” Drama Camp at the Joy Performance
Center, sponsored by the Kings Mountain Little Theatre.
Week one: June 13-17 for ages 5-10. Camp is 9 a.m.-2
p.m. every day with a 7:30 p.m. public performance on Fri-
day, June 17. Cost of the camp is $125.
- Week two: June 20-24-for ages 11 and up. Camp is 9 a.m.-
4 p.m. every day with a 7:30 p.m. public performance on Fri-
day, June 24. Cost of camp is $125.
Registration must be received by May 12 to guarantee a
