Biggers to attend School of Excellence Lauren Biggers, 9th grade student at Gaston Christian High School and daughter of Billy Biggers and Karen Big- gers of Kings Mountain, will at- tend the Gaston County Commissioners’ School of Ex- cellence at Belmont Abbey Col- lege in June. This two-week program of- fers a summer residential learn- ing experience for rising 10th graders in Gaston County. The students focus on prob- lem-solving and skills. Sam Spencer of Davidson, president of the North Car- olina Young Democrats organ- ization, visited Shelby Saturday, June 4, to lead the installation of 2011-2013 offi- cers for the Cleveland County Young Democrats chapter. Speaking before the cere- mony, Spencer noted that it was a Cleveland County Dem- ocratic - governor, O. Max Gardner, who set the state of North Carolina on its modern- day course with transforma- tive governance even through hard depression years. Savannah Horne, a recent graduate of Kings Mountain High School, will begin studying psychology at the University of North Carolina at Asheville in the Fall. She is the daughter of Kenny Horne and Paulette Putnam. Casey Hart is a recent graduate of Burns High School and will study busi- ness at Gardner Webb Uni- versity in the fall. Casey’s parents are Lowell and San- dra Hart. Brittany Rodden, daugh- ter of Gary and Natasha Yarbro, will continue her studies in athletic training at Western Carolina University where she is a junior student. Kari Strickland, daughter of Joey and Denise Strick- land, will be a junior at UNC at Chapel Hill where she is an education major. Heather Sain, daughter of Robin Sain and Margaret Stewart, will study mathe- matics at UNC at Asheville.
