Wednesday, June 15, 2011 Sports The Kings Mountain Herald Page 1C Players, coaches announced for HS All- American Bowl Canara Harris : "Tim Hines Coaches and rosters for the June 25th All-American Bowl at Kings Mountain’s John Gamble Stadium have been an- nounced. Kings Mountain High will be represented by three players - Cameron Harris, Tim Hines and Shelton Watson - and by three assistant coaches, Amos Myles, Craig Short and Jeff Putnam. « The three KM players are coming off outstanding senior years when they led the Mountaineers to a 7-5 overall record - and second place in the highly competitive Big South 3A rete posmwinant Conference. All three played on the 2008 KMHS team that finished 11-4 overall and played for the Western North Car- olina championship. Harris became the first KMHS quarterback ever to pass for over 2,000 (2,495) yards in a single season, Hines set the school’s all-time single season receiving record (1,110), and Watson was a leader § in the offensive and defonsive back- fields. Tickets for the event are on sale locally at numerous loca- tions. Fans are urged to get their tickets in advance because half of the pre-sale ticket money goes to the KMHS football program. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for ages 6-16 and free for children under six. Tickets are available at the KMHS main office, Oak Grove Grill, Parker’s Amoco, S&M Sports in Shelby and from KMHS coaches and players. - Teams will be designated as the Stars and Stripes. The, : Shelton Watson | ¥ Amost Myles three Kings Mountain players and their three coaches wil be on the Stripes team, which will be decked out in red uniforms. Head coach of the Stripes is veteran coach Eugene Ever- hart of Wheatmore High School in Randolph County. Other assistants will be Dave Potter of Kestrel Heights, Daniel Bai- ley of Chase and Damon Coiro of Greensboro Grimsley. Head coach of the Stars team, which will be dressed in blue uniforms, will be Donnie Kiefer of Waynesville Tuscola. He will be assisted by Wilburn Pender and Anthony Timmons of East Montgomery, John Worley of Hickory, Eric Puryear of Red Springs, Scott Stein of Sun Valley and Brandon Allen of Tuscola. Jordan Coleman, a defensive end from Bessemer City, will be a member of the Stars team as will two of Kings Moun- tain’s opponents over the past four years, linebacker-defen- sive end Deangelo Mouzon and offensive lineman Ryan Tyree of Hickory. Kieffer and Everhart are two of the most sucess head - coaches in North Carolina. Kieffer has 26 years experience as a high school head coach and coached two years as an as- sistant at Davidson College whén the Wildcats were in the Southern Conference. Kieffer was the North Carolina Coach of the Year in 2004, Regional Coach of the Year in 1994, 2004, 2006 and 2008 and Conference Coach of the Year in 1986, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009. His teams have played for the Eastern or Western NC championship six times. The All-American Bowl is sanctioned by the North Car- ‘olina High School Athletic Association. Its rules will be some- what different than regular high school games. Quarters will be 15 minutes in length. In case of a tie, over- time will not be played. If a tear scores and is behind by 10 or more points, it can receive the kickoff. This rule may be used just twice in the game and cannot be used twice in a row. Each team is allowed four formations on offense. Empty backfields are not permitted. The defense is allowed one base front and coverage is un- limited. Blitzing with second and third level players is not al- lowed. Place kicks and punts may not 5 blocked or rushed. Fake J PATS and field goals are not allowed. The offense must punt if it is inside its own 40 yard line, except in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter. The of- fense must kick a field goal on fourth down inside its oppo- nent’s 30 yard line, except in the final five minutes of the game. Shriners golf tourney is June 18 at KMCC | The 9th annual Bruce Ward Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children will be held June 18 at 1 p.m. at Kings Mountain Country Club. The tournament is sponsored by White Plains Shrine Club and 1s a captain’s choice format. Entry fee is $65 per player or $260 per team. First prize is $500 and $150 in the second and third flights. Cash prizes are based on a minimum of 20 teams. Mulligans, strings and skirts will be sold the day of the tournament. There will also be closest to the pin and long drive con- tests. The entry fee includes door prizes, BBQ, and goodie bags. The football camp is for students in grades 2-8 and will be held July 11-13 at John Gamble Stadium. The time is 9 a.m- 12 p.m. each day. All positions will be covered. The camp staff will include the KMHS coaching staff and some players. The cost is $30. A registration form and brochure may be -downloaded from the Kings Mountain High website.
