Mary was born January 29, 1959 in Georgia, a daughter of the late Jean Fitch and Jim Fitch of Kings Mountain. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 8, at 7 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Fu- neral Home of Cherryville, with the Rev. Leonard Bum- gardner officiating. Burial was private. Pearl Hullender KINGS MOUNTAIN - Pearl Hullender, 74, of Kings Mountain, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She was born in South Carolina to the La:itie Roland Waters a nd Mary Liddie Wright Waters and was also preceded in death by her husband, Ken Hullender,and brother, Stan- ley Waters. A member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, she retired from the textile in- dustry. Surviving are her daugh- ter, Mary Blanton and fi- ance, Ted Polinski of Maiden; sisters, Nell Waters and Charlene Lutz, both of Kings Mountain; two grand- children, Matthew Blanton and wife Laura of Shelby, and Heather Blanton of Maiden. AUGUSTINE, FL- Samuel Lee McCarter, 75, died Monday, September 5, 2011, at Flagler Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Kings Mountain Aug. 21, 1936, he was the son of Grady Samuel and Harrie Womack McCarter. He was a gradate of Kings Mountain High School, at- tended Gardner-Webb Col- lege and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Mc- Carter was retired from Farmers Mutual Insurance Company and was of the Presbyterian faith. Surviving are his daugh- ‘ter, Jacquelyn Lea McCarter; stepdaughters, Denise Milam and husband Robert, Carlene Burnett and husband John, Diane Cumisky and husband Matthew, Cheyenne Jones and husband Joseph, Debbie Gregory and hus- band Raymond, and Danielle Siegel; sister, Jerrie Lea Mc- Carter Patterson and hus- band Gene of Kings Mountain; niece, Regina Patterson Yarbro of Kings Mountain; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. King St., reported shoplifting. WRECKS AUG. 29: No injuries were reported but property damages were high in a seven vehicle pile-up at 4:17 p.m. on I-85 South from I-61 toward Dixon School Road, Cpl. Mark Butler reported. David Cook, Monti- cello, Ga. operating a 2007 Chevy and pulling a camper, James Wood, Monticello, Ga., operating a 2008 Ford, and Lonnie Criswell, Covington, Ga., operating a 2005 Chevy were traveling on I-85 and Criswell stopped due to a backup in traffic caused by a wreck. Criswell said he was able to stop without hitting Cook’s vehicle but someone hit his vehicle from behind causing him to hit the Criswell car which was pulling a camper trailer. The camper pulled by Cook overturned and Caleb Phillips, Oxford, Ga., operating a 2005 Chevy, tried to avoid the vehicles ahead of him by swerving to the left and struck the guardrail, the 2007 Honda operated by Shannon Branch of Gastonia and the Wood vehicle. A 1996 Dodge operated by Marvin Smith of Blacksburg, SC, hit the camper trailer Wood was pulling and the 2001 Ford operated by Tammi Woods of Gastonia rear-ended the Smith vehicle. EMS crews’ checked all drivers at the scene. Property damages totaled $42,600. AUG. 30: Officer EL. Whit- tington said a 2005 Acura oper- ated by Caleb Hines, 539 Crocker Rd., struck a 2007 Hyundai operated by Kenneth Jenkins Cloninger, 112 Castle- wood Rd., in the parking Jot at Food Lion. Property damages were estimated at $2500. SEPT. 1: Officer Bryan McGinnis said that vehicles op- erated by Kayla Ray of Gasto- nia and Jane Copenhaver, 400 El Bethel Rd., collided on King Street.
