proximately $5,000.

Mission among the denominations
Resurrection Lutheran Church members return
from tornado-ravaged Alabama
Members of Resurrection Lutheran
Church recently returned from a successful
mission trip to Pleasantville, Alabama, where
just a few months ago a tornado brought dev-
astation.
The missionaries were welcomed by a
grateful community. “Welcome North Car-
olina Work Team” read a sign outside of
Faith Free Methodist Church.
“The funny thing was that this Lutheran
group stayed at a Methodist church (who
were great cooks like our CUMC folks) su-
pervised by a Presbyterian project manager
and we worked on the house of a Southern
Baptist,” said Rev. Hobby Outten, pastor of
Resurrection Lutheran Church.
The mission trip was Oct. 17-21.

‘Cool Shades of Christmas’
A Christmas musical program, “Cool
Shades of Christmas” will be presented by
‘Lookin’ Up,” the musical ensemble of
Boyce Memorial ARP Church, Monday
evening, Nov. 28, in the fellowship hall of
the church at King Street/Edgemont Avenue.
The program is free of charge and will
benefit the Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry.
Those attending are asked to take canned
foods to support the Crisis Ministry.

Pageant set in Gastonia
The Miss Gastonia Scholarship Associa-
tion will present the Miss Merry Christmas
Pageant on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 11
a.m. at the Gaston County Public Library Au-
ditorium, 1555 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia.
The pageant is for girls 0-19 years and in-
cludes beauty, sportswear and photogenic
categories. Proceeds benefit the Miss Gasto-
nia scholarship fund.

Amnesty Days at Library
To encourage citizens to return long over-
due items or clear previous late fees while
helping the Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry,
the Mauney Memorial Library will hold
Amnesty Days in December. In exchange
for each food item donated (canned goods,
jars of ‘peanut butter and jelly), library staff
will cancel $1 in fines. This offer can be
used for fines due the Mauney Memorial Li-
brary.
Alumni needed
Wanted: Kings Mountain High School
alumni to play in softball and baseball games
