“As 2011 draws to an end, I would like to take a moment and thank all of yon who help make dur job a little easier, all of you * who give reason and mean- ing to the words printed in your paper each week. These are your stories. We just write them and we always hope we write something you’d like to read and keep. You are the soul of this paper and Ethank you for all of the little ways you remind us why we do what we do throughout the year. Thank you for being our ears and our eyes when we miss something im- portant. Thank you for sharing your stori¢s with us and keeping us informed so we can inform others. Thank you for your patience with our Web site. It’s a new endeavor and as with any new venture: we’re learning as we go. And to be specific, I’d like to thank the following peo- ple. If I miss you, please forgive me. Today is Tuesday - Deadline Day (or D-Day as I call it) and theze are too many things running through my head. Thank you: - Ellis Noell, the city’s special events director, who has on several occasions helped us with news and photos when we were in a pinch. - Fire Chief Frank Burns and all local firefighters, who run into a burning building when others are running out, who are always at the ready to brave the heat and save their EMILY WEAVER Editor The Kings Mountain Herald - Police Chief Melvin Proctor, all of the hard-working officers of the Kings Mountain Police and Records Clerk Penny Fulton, Sheriff Alan Norman and all of his deputies, who put their lives on the line every day for their commu- nity. Without their help and cooperation we would be hard- pressed for police news and without the help of KMPD’s toy closet many families would struggle with Christmas. - Mayor Rick Murphrey and all of the city’s depart- ments for sharing with us all of the good news of the city. - Johnny Harris, Ronnie Hawkins, Eric Wright, Brad Ellis and the staff at Harris Funeral Home; and, Jennifer, Dwight Tessneer, Marty Lockridge and the staff at Clay- Barnette Funeral Home. They do an excellent job submit- ting their obituaries in a format that is easy to read’and understand. - Principals, teachers and staff at all of the local schools for sending us news on how well their students are doing through honor rolls and awards day listings. Thank you for the letters to Santa. I’m sure the big guy loves reading them. I know we do. And a BIG thank you to Leigh Ann Long at Kings Mountain High, who knows the students at KMHS like a mother knows her babies. Thank you good teachers at all of our local schools who keep us in the loop on special events, special projects and special people. - All of the local churches, their pastors and parish- ioners who send us news of upcoming events and special stories. - Michael Chrisawn and Shirley Brutko with the Cleve- land County Chamber of Commerce for giving us the heads up on stories, business and economic development news. Thank you Cleveland County officials, county com- missioners, Grover Town Clerk Tricia Willis and Bessemer . City’s Interim City Manager Janice Costner for your help with news. ie - Monty Thornburg, Terrie Lewis and staff at the Patrick Wednesday, December 28, 2011 A cpecial thanks, to allofyou Senior Center who send us their calendars and are always willing to give us story ideas for special sections and events. - The coaches at Kings Mountain High, Kings Mountain Middle and the Kings Mountain Family YMCA, who re- port their game results win, lose or draw. - And Id be remiss if I forgot all of the talented people we have here at The Herald. Ron and Wendy Isbell, our local owners and the father and mother of our little opera- tion, have brought new life back to the paper. We continue to pray for Ron, who is home now from Carolinas Medical Center still battling a scary cancer. (If you would like to send any well-wishes or words of encouragement to Ron, you can send them to P.O. Box 769, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.) Lib Stewart is my right arm and carries a huge workload without complaint. I'm still learning from her and I could not do it without her. Kyra Alexander Turner would be my other right arm - if I had two right arms. She works hard to keep our Web site and news feeds updated and juggles whatever else I throw at her (stories, photos, pagination) with grace. Gary Stewart is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to sports. His coverage on the field of competition is the best around and his photos are some of the best that ap- pear in the paper each week. Rick Hord, our sales manager, has been excellent at giving us more pages by selling more ads for us to tell more stories. Lisa Zyble, our composing manager, who, with a smile, handles all of the pressures of laying out pages under deadline while dealing with us picky editors. Kathy Reynolds who collects a lot of infor- mation for us while we’re tied down at a computer. - And last, but certainly not least, THANK YOU to all of our readers and advertisers. If it weren’t for you we - wouldn’t be here. % neighbors. wl =...
