The Kings Mountain Herald January 4, 2012 Elizabeth Wilson Blanton LAKELAND, FLORIDA - Elizabeth “Libby” Wilson Blanton died on Monday, Decem- ber 26, 2:0: 11. She was _| 78. She gl Ww a s H born in Gastonia N.C. in 1933. Libby graduated from Agnes Scott College in 1955. She was married to Charles D. Blanton Jr. and had three children. She briefly taught high school English, and after her chil- dren were older, she was a Field Executive for Pioneer , Girl Scout Council (Gasto- nia, N.C.). She lived in Kings Mountain, NC until 1971 when she moved to Or- mond Beach, Fla. to work for Citrus Council of Girl Scouts. A promotion at Citrus Council caused her to move the family to Winter Park, Fla. in 1974. She became the Execu- tive Director of Northeast Georgia Girl Scout Council, Athens, GA in 1977. In 1980, she was ap- pointed Executive Director of Gulfcoast Girl Scout Council, Sarasota, Fla., where she lived and worked until her retirement in 1997. In 1998, she moved to Lake- land, Fla. Over the years, Libby was an active voluntéer in her- church and served as president of the Women's Presbytery of North Carolina for two years in the 1960s. She also was active with the Girl Scouts as a volunteer before her employment with the organization and with various causes in the com- munities where she lived. She was a devoted supporter of Agnes Scott College and kept in touch with many of her friends from her college days and from the communi- ties where she lived. Libby was predeceased by her parents, Vera S. Wil- son and James C. Wilson, and her sister-in-law, Sibyl Wilson. She is survived by her brothers James C. Wil- son Jr. (Marty) and William F. W ilson (Shirley): daugh- ters Donna E. Blanton (John Van Gieson) and Becky Abel (Tom), and by her son, Whit Blanton (Cathy); grandchil- dren Lee Ziffer (Thalia), Johnny Van Gieson, Kather- ine Abel, Meredith Abel (Barry Engh), Colleen Abel, Melanie Blanton, and Amelia Blanton; great- granddaughter Zora Whitney Engh; nieces and nephews and Fergie the Yorkie. A truck blocked Holland's view; according to the re- port, and her 2012 Nissan pulled into the path of the Costner 1994 Mazda and spun: around into the front of a stationary 1999 Honda operated by William David Green, 141 Jim Patterson Road at the cross over waiting on traffic. Property damages were estimated at $8500. DEC. 24: Sgt. Mark Butler charged a 17-year-old man with hit and run after the 1998 Jeep he was driving rear-ended a 2007 Jeep op- erated by Joseph Ephriam of Frenchtown, NJ. on I- 85 South. Sgt. Butler said Manuel Avedano of Gasto- nia fled the scene after the collision and followed Ephriam to exit 5 where Ephriam's jeep overturned on the ramp to I-85 North. Avedano was arrested by the North Carolina High- way Patrol for DWI and no operator's license. Cleve- land County EMS re- sponded to the wreck scene. Property damage to the Ephriam Jeep was esti- mated at $1500. There was unknown damage esti- mated to the Jeep, owned by Manuel Perez. DEC. 27. Officer 'M. I. Howard said that Eddie Lockhart, of Grover, oper- ating a 2002 Chevrolet struck tree limbs in the roadway near Quarry Road | and damaged his vehicle approximately $500 to .a right side mirror and win- dow glass.
