clinch tie,
host playoff
game Monday
Kings Mountain jumped out to an 8-0 lead and rolled to a
31-20 win over Burns Monday at the KMMS gym to wrap up -
at least a tie for the regular season title in the Tri-County East
Division.
Monty Deaton’s LadyPatriots, 10-1 overall, will end their
regular season Thursday at West Lincoln. They will host the
#2 team from the West Division (either Crest or R-S Central)
in the first round of the conference championship playoffs
Monday at 4 p.m. If they win that game, they will host the
conference championship game on Thursday, Feb. 23.

fifth overall under interim coach

The Chargers’ Redd Hush missed a
shot at the buzzer to.ensure the victory.
The Mountaineers couldn’t get their
game in gear early as Crest jumped out
to a 12-7 first quarter and 30-18 half-
time lead. They led by as many as 14
points before the Mountaineers rallied
in the second half,
Kings Mountain outscored Crest 17-
8 in the third quarter to cut the margin
to 38-35, and then went ahead late in
the game before the Chargers’ P.J.
Brooks knotted the game at 50-all to
force the overtinie.
The Mountaineers placed three play-
ers in double figures with Treyvon
Adams leading the way with 19 points.
Hines added 16 and Edward Blackburn
12. Hines dished out five assists. Black-
burn pulled down 15 rebounds and
James Tillman grabbed 12.
The Mountaineers completed their
regular season Friday night at first place
Forestview and lost to the Jaguars 65-
49.
Forestview had the upper hand from
the opening tip. The Jaguars led by 12-
2 at the end of the first period and 30-15
at halftime. They led 50-27 going into
the fourth period.
Hines led the Mountaineers with 15
points" and Tillman and Blackburn
added nine each. Tillman had 10 re-
bounds and Blackburn nine.

The Lady Raiders were in control from the beginning,
leading 23-5 after the first period and 36-13 at halftime.
South Point led 50-22 going into the fourth period.
“Obviously getting out to better starts, taking care of |
the ball and defense will be points of emphasis for us |,
going into the off-season,” said first-year KM coach Amos
Myles. “Our girls worked hard this year but I think they |
know now that there are no guarantees. I think we havea |
tremendous upside and next year we should be much im-
proved.”
Taquisha Smith led the KM scoring with 15 points.
Shadaiya Roberts added 12.

in BSC playoffs
Kings Mountain High's girls basketball team ended its
season Monday with a 61-42 loss to South Point in the
first round of the Big South 3A Tournament at South
Kings Mountain’s Mountaineers finished up their season
Monday night at Ashbrook with a 69-28 loss in the opening
round of the Big South tournament.
The Mountaineers ended up with a 3-9 conference and 5-
17 overall record under interim coach Grayson Pierce. They
defeated North Gaston, South Point and Crest in the BSC and
Burns in two non-conference games.
Ashbrook dominated the game from the outset. The Green
Wave hit 10 3-pointers, led by Antonio Blalock with three
Sophomore Solomon Hawkins led the Mountaineers with
seven points. James Tillman had 13 rebounds.
