member of the Kings Moun-
tain Police Department staff
of sworn officers, says he al-
ways wanted to be a police-
man.
Growing up, Tate said he
always told his folks and
school teachers that was his
goal. His family, as well as
other police officers, city staff,
and Ward I Councilman Rev.
Howard Shipp were on hand
. to congratulate him at an oath-
of-office ceremony Friday
morning in Council Chambers
at Kings Mountain City Hall.
Mayor Rick Murphrey
conducted the ceremony,
which included the official
swearing-in and reading of the
mission statement, core values
and code of ethics by the
mayor and Tate. KMPD Chief
Melvin Proctor congratulated
Tate.
on her husband’s uniform.
Rev. Doug Allen gave the.
invocation, praying for a safe
environment for all officers,
admonishing the new officer
and all officers to surround
themselves with “the shield of
faith and the courage, strength
and wisdom to deal with those
in trouble.”
Before joining KMPD,
Tate worked for a year at the
Cleveland County Detention
Center. A graduate of Crest
High School, he completed
law enforcement training at
Cleveland Community Col-
lege. He is the son of Kim-
berly Williams and Billy Tate,
both of Gastonia, and he and
his wife, Danielle Toms Tate,
are parents of four children:
Shalay, 7; Cameron, 5;
Shakala, 4, and Jaylen, 3. The
family is active in First Mis-
sionary Baptist Church in
Shelby.
