Eagle Scout project at Kings Mountain park garners high accolades for Myers Eagle Scout Tyler Myers of Troop 101 First Baptist Church in Shelby was awarded the Piedmont Council Eagle Scout Project of the Year Award and The Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award for the Southern Re- gion of the Boy Scouts of America. i The awards were pre- sented by Camp Bud Schiele project that benefited his community and inspired Assistant Camp Director , younger Scouts. Along with Paul Odom during the clos- ing campfire ceremony on Friday June 29. Odom read a letter from C. William Steele, Director of Alumni Relations and the National Eagle Scout Association; thanking Myers for submit- ting an inspiring Eagle Scout two framed certificates and a gold device to wear on his Eagle Scout square knot, Myers received a $500 check for future educational purposes or an international or national Scouting event or facility. Myers placed first in his council out of 174 Eagle Scouts from 9 districts and 11 counties with a service project at Kings Mountain State Park. His project en- tailed constructing two stair- ways, a stone creek crossing, three bridges, and ene-half mile of lakeside trail leading to a split-rail fenced over- look with two benches. The project required 1,376 hours of labor from 51 volunteers and cost over $7,500 from 124 sponsors.
