What it was Saturday was a Zombie Walk sponsored by the YMCA and Mauney Memorial Li-
brary and everyone who donated a book to the local library was made up as a zombie and pa-
raded at noon from Mauney Library to Patriots Park — all in the name of a good cause and a
feature of the ongoing Summer Reading program. Participants said the adult/teen program
“was a blast and fun.”

Kelly, McGill receive
Diamond Jubilee Awards
Two Kings Mountain Masons — Clayvon
Kelly and Norman F. McGill, Jr. — were hon-
ored recently with Diamond Jubilee Awards
by Fairview Lodge 339 AF&AM.
The certificates and pins presented to
Kelly and McGill on July 11 and July 12 by
Masons Toney Wells and Jim Medlin repre-
sent 60 years of membership in the Masonic
Lodge by the well-known Kings Mountain
residents. :
The white gold medal, cast in the form of
a circle, a symbol of unity, is embroidered
with blue, the colors of the heavens. It signi-
fies the lasting qualities of friendship to those
who are linked together by the permanent
chain of sincere affection found in the frater-
nity of Freemasonry. Upon its face is im-
printed the seal of Ancient, Free and
Accepted Masons of North Carolina, and at
the bottom of the circle are the words “60
years.” Around the border of this award is a
beautiful laurel wreath. At the apex of the
Masonic compasses is a diamond in focal
significance of this memorable occasion.
Said Medlin, “Freemasonry teaches a
proper reverence, respect and veneration for
age, because the fraternity recognizes in the
passing of the years an inevitable increase in
knowledge. These years of life have a further
significance when they have been spent in
the service of the downtrodden and in a life
dedicated to the uplifting of humanity, the
service of those who walk the paths of life in
brotherly love and friendship and to the glory
of God. The fraternity of freemasonry looks ,
to age for wisdom and upon wisdom Freema-
sonry builds the walls of each of its laudable
enterprises. Clavon and Norman are beauti-
ful and perfect examples of men who have
shared their lives in helping distressed elder
individuals and children who need a home
and family-care and Fairview Lodge honors
them for continued, dedicated, uninterrupted
60 years of dedicated service.”
