Franky has been betrayed and everyone close to him soon discovers that vengeance is now that he seeks. He wants a lot more than that. Rated R. Friday’s 7 p.m. shows in- clude three shorts, two docu- mentaries and one animation. The 20-minute “My Home,” animation comes from New York and is rated G. It’s the story about a per- sistent and self-indulgent beaver who is not a very good neighbor. That is, until he meets a precocious no-non- sense turtle. In Oneida soci- ety, the oral tradition is very important and represents the soul of the Oneida people. From generation to generation children are taught about their Oneida traditional beliefs from an Elder who has the ability to speak with meaning and confidence. The film opens with that scene. The young turtle wakes to find a beaver has changed her home. The beaver is more interested in technology than the nature around him and its inhabi- tants. The turtle, upset, soon realizes she has to stop him. “Link” is a 14 minute, 50 second short rated PG and a North Carolina film. Harmon and Wendell are two WWI concentration camp escapees, chained together at the wrist. Their run for freedom is halted when they step on a landmine. “The Last Ocean” is an 87- minute documentary from New Zealand. The race is to protect Earth’s last untouched ocean, the Ross Sea Antarc- tica, from humanity’s insa- tiable appetite for fish. After intermission on Fri- day “Dr. Gutman’s Eulogy”, rated PG-13, a 17 minute, 46 second film from Florida will play on the Joy screen. This film is about a grieving son who tries to find the words to send his father off, while dodging bad advice, match maker family members and his own anxieties. What if OJ didn’t do it? > Overlooked Suspect” is an hour long documentary from Canada rated PG 13. Execu- tive producers Howard Barrett and William Dear said the film is an incredible search for the truth behind the “trial of the century.” Take the oppor- tunity to see and hear the evi- dence that has never been made public. Rounding out Friday’s shows will be “Cold Turkey,” a 14 minute short rated R, from Iceland. Mark and Jennifer decide to adopt a baby, but when Jen- nifer travels to pick up the baby she is killed in a car ac- cident. After Mark identifies his wife’s body and collects her remains, he is presented with the baby and must decide whether to go through with the adoption alone. “A World of Difference,” is an 8 minute, 10 second dig- ital animation from Illinois that moves us along a bumpy path through Space and Time to discover truth, perfection and meaning. “Ed” is a 14-minute ani- mation from Brazil. Meet Ed and his extraordinary life: fifty years of an unforgettable journey. Many loves, adven- tures, and remarkable stories. What nobody knows is why Ed wants to end it. “Chairworks”, A 24 minute short film from Raleigh, is about Dr. Parnell who has created a new ther- apy to help patients with anger management. Some- times you have to hurt to heal. After intermission Satur- day afternoon “Spring Eddy,” rated R, a 103 minute feature from Texas will be shown. Eddy is a small-time Chicago - criminal with a penchant for dim-witted schemes and he’s on the run. After ripping off his- boss, he hightails it to Mexico but gets distracted by a pretty hitchhiker on the way. What begins as a simple tryst ends with Eddy beaten up, broken down and penniless in Wyont, Texas, inadvertently witnessing a murder by Willet Nash, the county’s all power- ful Sheriff. Eddy tries to hold up a bank and make a run for it, but his cockamamie plan goes awry and he’s caught in the act by Nash himself. Eddy’s only chance to make it out of jail alive is his fiancée Jeannie, who he left jilted at the altar back in Chicago. . Saturday night shows in- clude two shorts, two anima- tions, a documentary and a 1 Y% hour feature film followed by a party and presentation of awards. “Spaghetti for Two” is an 18-minute, 31-second short rated G from Germany. A seemingly ordinary day be- comes a significant turning point for an unremarkable man, thanks to a minimal shift of fate. “Imagine,” rated PG is a 29 minute, 45 second short from Utah. It’s a physiologi- cal drama about John Morris, The documentary The Last Ocean (above) and the animated film My Home (at right) will both show Friday, July 26, after 7 p.m. a paramedic, who lives under a cloud of guilt after being un- able to save his daughter’s life. Being present at her death, the guilt has left him numb and has shattered his re- lationship with his wife, Kate. Through Charged water, water that has been influenced by specific thoughts or en- ergy, an experiment held by Dr. Arlen, John begins to con- nect with his daughter in an unknown world. Through the recurring events in that world, he becomes convinced that he has the ability to change the events that have happened in the past. Confident that he can prevent her from drowning he tries to convince Kate that he can make everything the way it used to be. “Umbrellcorn,” rated G, 4 minutes, 10 seconds, is a 2D computer animated short about a unicorn that has an umbrella for a horn. “Brain Power,” rated PG, is a 10 minute documentary from California, based on re- search from Harvard Univer- sity’s Center on the Developing Child and Uni- versity of Washington’s I=LABS. The project explores the parallels between a child’s brain development and the de- velopment of the global brain of the Internet, offering in- sights into the best ways to shape both. : “Oh Willy,” rated PG-13, is ‘a 15 minute animation, from Belgium. Willy, forced to return to his naturist roots, bungles his way into noble savagery. After intermission, ‘Wet Behind the Ears,” a 90 minute feature film rated R, from New York with Margaret Keane Williams, executive producer and lead actor, Sloan Copeland, writer, director, ed- itor, producer. What do you do if you just graduated college? Well, most people would say it’s time to get a job. But in a country where more than half of recent college graduates are unemployed, it’s more likely that the end of college means moving back in with your par- ents. Join Samantha Phelps on her journey into the job mar- - ket, where a minimum wage or jail time seems to be the only options. “Wet behind the Ears” takes a comical look at joblessness and adjusting to the real world in a way that will resonate with an under- employed generation.
