East Elementary fourth graders recently had the op- portunity to experience first- hand the principles of economics studied in social studies lessons. Students created their own business, and distribution. Students began by creating a business plan detailing the sale of lemonade and cookies as a fundraiser for East School’s Relay for Life team. Lemonade sale nets $145 for Relay for Life ters to the teachers asking them to promote the event. Prior to event day, students worked on job descriptions and divided the labor. Event day was exciting with the actual setup on the front purchases and received a cancer prevention flyer to inform them of healthy be- haviors. At the conclusion, the profits netted our Relay for Life team $145.60. Stu- dents took the time to send hardships of being business owners. Overall, students were thrilled with the sup- port of their school friends.
