Moore and husband Mike of Stanley; daughter-in-law, Lureen Hel- ton of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Joshua Helton of Kings Mountain; Made- line and Lucas Moore of Stanley; brothers and sister- in-law, Dr. Tony and Gayle Fulbright of Stanley; Jack Fulbright of Lowell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Melva and Bobby Aldridge of Low- ell; Denise and Jackie Bradley of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Colum- bus Helton. McLean Funeral Home Ruth Eaker Gamble Mayhew KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ruth Eaker Gamble Mayhew, 96, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Kings Moun- tain Hospice House. She Ww a s born in Lincoln County, NC on December 21, 1917 to Myrtle and Lafayette Eaker and resided in Kings Moun- tain most of her life. In addi- tion to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Gam- ble and by her second hus- band, Tom Mayhew; four brothers, Gerald, Wilbur, Ralph and Boyce; two sisters, Helen Warren and Averice Bridges and by her grandson, Tim Blanton. She was a lifelong mem- ber of El Bethel United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain where she served in many positions. She was a member of the Kings Moun- tain Woman’s Club and the American Legion Auxiliary, once serving as the State Chaplain. Ruth took pride in her family and enjoyed gar- dening and helping others. She had many hobbies in- cluding participating for many years in the Senior Olympic Games. Mrs. May- hew served the Lord and her family through her love. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and Hospice for their care given in the last several months. Myetta Alouise Oates KINGS MOUNTAIN — Myetta Alouise Oates was born April 6, 1937 in Kings Mountain, North Carolina to the late George Womic and Arletha Logan Womic. She began her eternal life on September 24, 2014. Mrs. Oates’ life was de- voted to i] servic- Py ing her church 4 in many different ways. She be- member of Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age and began teaching Sunday school at 15 years old. She continued this service to the church for 60 years until her © memories with her two daughters, health failed. She also served as the president of the Missionary: Department, Director of Va- cation Bible School, Flower Committee, Children’s Nursery and several other auxiliaries. In addition, she worked diligently with the Ebenezer Missionary Bap- tist Association in various roles. Mrs. Oates was a vale- dictorian graduate of Wash- ington School in Waco, North Carolina. She contin- ued her education at John- son C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After completing her degree, she returned to Washington Elementary and taught 33 years at the second grade level before retiring in 1994. As a civic minded mem- ber of community, Mrs. Oates was a lifetime mem- ber of the NAACP and was came a selected as Mother of the Year for the State of North Carolina 1979. In addition, she was very active in voter registration for Cleveland County which President Bill Clinton personally recog- nized with a phone call after his re-election. In honor of Floyd Womic, her late brother, she was an avid supporter and sponsor of the National Kidney Founda- tion. She also served a term as Chaplain of the Kings Mountain Senior Citizens Center. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Summey Alexander Oates; two sis- ters, May Hattie Barron and Maudlean Wilson; five brothers, George Jr, John, Floyd, Caleb, and Richard. . She leaves cherished Beverly Ann Qates Jones (John Douglas) of ‘Kings Mountain; and Loretta Oates of Minneapo- lis, Minnesota; a sister Doris (Tina) of Bridgeport, Con- necticut; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, interment following in the church cemetery. Dee said that Brandy Michelle Robinson, 159 Crown Court, operating a 2005 Ford, slowed due to traffic in the roadway from a wreck that had just occurred further up the roadway. Her vehicle was rear-ended by a 1994 Chevy operated by Michael Dillard, 2034 Shelby Road, and Dillard's vehicle was rear-ended by a 1983 Ford operated by Cory Diprojetto, 414 N.
