member of Kings Mountain
Baptist Church and former
owner/operator of Fashion
Cleaners. She also worked
in several management posi-
tions over the years. She has
taken care of many people
over the years.
Survivors include her
husband of 60 year Gene E.
Austin, Kings Mtn. NC; Sons
Chuck Austin and wife Lisa,
Kings Mtn. NC; Brad Austin,
Kings Mtn. NC; 2 Grand-
children: CJ Austin and wife
Brittany, Kings Mtn. NC;
Cody Austin, Kings Mtn. NC;
Great granddaughter: Leigh-
ton Austin.
A funeral service was held
at Kings Mountain Baptist
Church, Sunday, December
28, at 3 p.m., with Dr. Robert
Eng and Rev. Tim Whitesides
officiating.
Interment is at Mountain
Rest Cemetery, Kings Moun-
tain, North Carolina. Memo-

dence. A
native of
‘Cleveland County, he was
born January 1, 1943, son of
ithe late William “Jake” Har-
ison and Maggie Lee Car-
oll Causby. He was a good
hearted man who loved his
amily. He was a man who
‘was full of life and loved
‘doing for others. He loved
the outdoors and anything
to do with the outdoors from
whitewater rafting to cutting
wood to having huge cook-
outs inviting anyone and ev-
eryone, the more the merrier.
He was a simple man who
wore his overalls every day.
- He will be loved and missed
by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents,
he is preceded in death by
three brothers, Dean Causby,
Roy Dean White, and David
Causby; one sister, Ruth
Brackett; two grandsons and
one granddaughter.
He is survived by his
wife of 52 years Judy Bell
Causby and a great grand-
daughter Karena Causby of
the home; four daughters,
Roxanne Wright of Kings
Mountain, Tammy Ruyle of
Denver, Bobbie Jo Causby of
Kings Mountain, and Bobbie
Ann Biddix of Clover, SC;
one son, Marty Lockridge
of Kings Mountain; two
brothers, Richard Causby of
Shelby and Pete Causby of
Bellwood; five sisters, Doris
Bridges of Shelby, Ruby
Rector of Conley Springs,
Inez Smith, Faye Martin, and
Ann Ruyle all of Caser; two
son-in-laws, Michael “Tony”
Wright of Kings Mountain
and Gary Ruyle of Caser;
ten grandchildren; nine great
grandchildren.
The family will receive
friends one hour prior to the
service at the church, with
Rev. Greg Neely and Rev.
Don McNeely officiating.
A memorial service will
be held Thursday 3 p.m.
at Chestnut Ridge Baptist
Church in Kings Mountain.
Burial will be at a later
date and announced by the
family at the family ceme-
tery.

December 28, 2014, at The
‘Alamance-Caswell Hospice
House in Burling, NC.

Annis Love Dettmar. After
‘graduation from Kings Moun-
tain High School and Brevard
Junior College she joined the
Army’s Cadet Nurses Corp
and received her B.S.R.N.
in 1946 from Duke Univer-
sity. Her professional career
included work as Supervi-
Sor of OB-Gyn and Surgery
at Duke Hospital; Surgical
Nurse at Sarasota Memorial
Hospital in Sarasota, Florida;
then Public Health Nursing
in Florida. Her last 25 years
working were spent at Guil-
ford County Health Depart-
“ment where she retired in
1986 as Supervisor of Adult
Health Services.
An active member of Our
Father Lutheran Church on
Groometown Road, she was
one of the first women to
serve on the church council.
She chaired many committees
and especially enjoyed lead-
ing the Sunshine Club which
she chaired for 20 years.
Fran was always an active
volunteer for the American
Lung Association of NC and
served as State President in
1984-85. She was the state
chairman for the Smoke-Free
2000 program to encourage
children to not smoke.
She also enjoyed volun-
teering with the Piedmont
Triad International Airport
for more than 20 years begin-
ning in 1989.
Fran loved to travel and
was fortunate to be able to see
much of the USA and several
foreign countries.
Fran was married to Don-
ald L. Hayes of High Point,
NC in Sept. 1948. She was
predeceased by her parents
and a brother, Robert Brent
Dettmar, of Gulf Coast, Flor-
ida.
A memorial service will
be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday,
January 11th at The Lutheran
Church of Our Father, 3304
Groometown Road, Greens-
boro, NC, 27407 with the
Rev. Judy Copeland, offici-
ating. The family will receive
friends at the church immedi-
ately following the service.

children: son, Richard Brent
Hayes (Lisa) of Hanover,
MD; two daughters, Ran-
dall H Dunn of Burlington,
NC and Dr. Robin H Moser
(Bob) of Concord, NC; six
grandchildren, Mary Cather-
ine Dolphens (Ben) of Char-
lotte, NC, David A Dunn
(Laura) of San Diego, Ca.,
Ethan D Hayes of Morgan-
town, W. Va. , Katie E Moser
of Alaska, Molly C Moser of
Chapel Hill, NC, and Patrick
N. Moser of Chapel Hill, NC.
Two sisters, Ruth Goforth
of Albemarle, NC and Kitty
Barton (Roger) of San Fran-
cisco, as well as one brother,
William R Dettmar (Marga-
ret) of Winter Park, Fla also
survive. She was also privi-
leged to be survived by many
nieces and nephews and their
families.
Because of her love for
all animals (except snakes),
she requested no flowers but
rather donations made to your
choice of Animal Welfare Or-
ganizations; NC Public Tele-
vision or Victory Junction
Gang Camp.

Bridges. She was also pre-
ceded in death ‘by her hus-
band of 65 years, William
Boyd Howell; brothers, Kirk
Bridges and Coy Bridges; and
sisters, Margaret Hamrick
and Zoe Scism.
Mrs. Howell was retired
from the textile industry and a
member of Bethlehem Baptist
Church. She also volunteered
for Hospice of Cleveland
County.
Surviving are her daugh-
ter, Teresa Howell Graham,
Greensboro, NC; grandson,
Matthew Steven Graham
and wife, Crystal Burger
Graham, Asheboro; broth-
ers Troy Bridges and wife,
Polly, Spartanburg, SC, Bob
Bridges and wife, Bonnie, of
Charlotte and Hugh Bridges,
Fort Mill, SC.
The funeral service will be
conducted Thursday, Jan. 8,
2015 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem
Baptist Church. Dr. Steve
Taylor will officiate the ser-
vice.

humble and sweet man, he
was a special son, husband,
daddy, and pawpaw to all.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by
his loving wife, Lucy Leigh
Lockridge; brothers, James,
Thomas, Meek, Campbell,
Calvin, and Sam Lockridge;
sister, Mary Frances Lock-
ridge Green.
He is survived by his

NC. He was born in Cleve-

Thurman Holly Smith and
Dollie Bridges Smith. He
was also preceded in death
by his wife of 56 years,
Doris Yates Smith; his
brother, Milfred F. Smith;
his sister, Leona Smith
Neal. He was a member of
Bethlehem Baptist Church
and Christian Freedom
Baptist Church. Mr. Smith
served in the United States
Air Force during the Ko-
rean War. He was retired
from the North Carolina
Department of Transpor-
tation after 33 years of
service. He was a loving
husband, father, grandfa-
ther and friend who will be
greatly missed.

— Nancy Ann (Dryer) Ham-
mitt, 78, of Hambden, Ohio
and Kings Mountain, North
Carolina, passed away peace-
fully while recovering from a
stroke on January 3, 2015.
Mrs. Hammitt was born
and raised in Hambden, Ohio,
the daughter of the late Frank
and Ruth Grace (French)
Dryer. She graduated from
Chardon High School in
Chardon, Ohio. She worked
for many years at Chardon
Rubber Company/ Ball Rub-
ber and Plastics from which
she retired. She moved to
Kings Mountain, NC in 2006.
Mrs. Hammitt is survived
by her beloved husband of 58
years, Glen W. Hammitt Sr.
of Kings Mountain, NC; son,
Glen W. Hammitt Jr. and his
wife, Audette of Shrewsbury,
MA. She is also survived by
a granddaughter, Corina L.
Allgood and her husband,
Joshua and their children,
Jace and Elizabeth of Beth-
lehem, GA, two grandsons,
Glen W. Hammitt III of San
Diego, CA and Sean R. Ham-
mitt of Shrewsbury, MA.
Mrs. Hammitt also leaves be-
hind a sister, Alberta Varat of
Middlefield, Ohio, her moth-
er-in-law, Virginia Hammitt
and a brother-in-law Richard
Hammitt and his wife, Patrice
of Kings Mountain,NC, as
well as many nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her par-
ents she was predeceased by
three sisters: Delores Adams,
Wanetta Elliot and Rose
Skidmore and two brothers,
John and Dale Dryer.
Mrs. Hammitt enjoyed
travel throughout the United
States as well as her visit
to Japan while her son was
stationed there. Her hobbies
included flower gardening
in the spring and summer
and making holiday cookies
in the winter. However, she
most enjoyed the time spent
with her family whom she
dearly loved.
The family will receive
friends from 10:30-11 a.m.
