He was born in Kings Mountain, NC to the late Glee A. Bridges and Addie H. Bridges. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Martha P. Bridges and brother Nelson Bridges. Glee attended the Uni- versity of North Carolina, NC State and Cornell Uni- versity prior to being com- missioned in the United States Navy with the rank of Ensign. He served in both the United States Navy and the Naval Re- serve for 31 years, retiring in 1974 with the rank of Captain. Glee and brother JC Bridges bought Bridges Hardware from their father and ran the business for over 40 years until retiring in 1988. Glee was devoted to Kings Mountain, serving for 45 years on the Board of Directors of Kings Mountain Savings and Loan (now Bank of the Ozarks), a loyal member of the Kiwanis Club for over 60 years and a long time active member of St. Mat- thew’s Lutheran Church. Glee loved woodworking, gardening, and hunting in Oakland Plantation in East- ern, NC. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Kings Mountain Hospice House. Barbara Lovelace loving homemaker GROVER - Barbara Van Dyke Lovelace, 88, , passed into her heavenly home Sunday morning January 11, 2015 at Kings 4 Mountain id Hospice House. She 4 was born to the late James P. and Lether Smith Van Dyke in the Love Valley Community of Kings Mountain. She was a long time resident of Grover, NC. Barbara was a textile worker and home maker. Her passion was spending time with her family, cook- ing and playing the piano. In her early years, she en- joyed playing music with her devoted husband, play- ing the guitar and mandolin. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Gro- Ver. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James William Love- lace; brothers John and R.L. Van Dyke; twin sister Mary Jane Allison; sister Sarah Warlick. The family wishes to thank the caring staffs of Summit Place, White Oak Manor and Kings Mountain Hospice as each contributed to her journey home. Thelma Wilson Murphree KINGS MOUNTAIN - Thelma Wilson Murphree, age 84, a resident of Kings Mountain, went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2015 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. She was born in Spin- dale, NC, daughter of the late David Preston and Hat- tie Boyd Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. She was a loving mother and grand- mother who will be greatly missed by her family. Carpenter said a vehicle left the scene after striking a 1997 Ford owned by Jennifer Whets- tine, 207 Thornburg Drive, parked at 1011 Shelby Road. Property damage was estimated at $600. JAN. 2: Officer H.W. Carpenter said that Ashton Smith, 521 Harmon Ct., operating a 2001 Nissan on Walker Street said that a dog ran out in front of his vehicle and was hit by his car. He said he went to the house of the dog owner who said the pet ran out of his residence when a door w as opened. The car had slight damage. JAN. 2: Officer HW. Carpenter said that Dev- ella Adams, 525 Crocker Road, operating a 2010 Toyota, was backing from a parking space at 900 Shelby Road and struck a 2014 Nissan operated by Debra Hord of Shelby. Property damages were slight. JAN. 2: Officer J. L.Dee said that Thomas A. Dellinger, 104 Peoria Lane, operating a 2004 Chevrolet, failed to stop for stopped traffic and hit a vehicle operated by Ken- neth Queen, 103 Cyrus Lane. The accident hap- pened on US 74 Business. Property damage was esti- mated at $3,000. JAN. 4: Officer G. L. McKinney said that Char- lotte James, Shelby, op- erating a 2001 Chevrolet and Aaron Roshia, 1027 Mountain Crest Drive, operating a 2008 BMW, were backing up at the gas pumps at Kangaroo, Cleveland Ave., and hit each other. Property dam- age was slight to the Ro- shia vehicle. JAN. 5: Officer J.L. Dee said that James Ray Long, Bessemer City, operating a 1996 Buick, failed to reduce speed at the intersection of Busi- ness 74 and Watterson Street and struck a 2006 Chevrolet operated by Charles V. Barrett, 301A, E. Ridge St. Property damages were estimated at $3500. JAN. 7: Officer M.D. Butler said that Raleigh Postelle, 428 St. Luke Church Road, operating a 1995 Ford, rear-ended a Honda operated by Ashley Riley, York, SC. Barbara Grindle loved animals KINGS MOUNTAIN - Barbara Hinson Grin- dle, 78, resident of Kings Mountain, NC passed away January 12, 2015 at Wil- low Ridge Nursing Center, Rutherfordton, NC. She was born in Cleve- land County, NC to the late Fred Hinson and Vio- let Peterson Hinson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Billy Ray Grindle and sisters, Shirley Hinson and Myrtle Del- linger. Mrs. Grindle was retired from the textile in- dustry. She was a loving sister and aunt who will be greatly missed. She loved Elvis and animals, espe- cially her cats. Surviving are her broth- ers, James Hinson and wife Betty, Kings Mountain, NC and Charles Hinson and wife, Melinda, Lawndale; sister, Debbie Cole, Kings Mountain, and brother- in-law, Dennis Dellinger, Kings Mountain. The memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. * 17, 2015 at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the funeral service from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home.
