She was born on April 1, 1970 in Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Smith, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her maternal grand- parents, Rosa Lee O’Kelley Smoak and George Hamlin O’Kelley, Sr., along with William Walker Smoak, and paternal grandparents, Chris- tine Phillips Smith and Rob- ert Lee Smith, Sr. A 1988 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, she attended Gaston College and Cleveland Community Col- lege. She worked most of her career at Smith Insurance _ Agency as office manager, forming many lasting friend- ships with clients, and most recently as an administrator at Second Chances Counsel- ing. She enjoyed her service on the Kings Mountain Caro- lina Thread Trail Committee, and was an ayid USC Game- cock fan, following in a long, spirited family tradition. Betty Jo Mauney Smith Retired from Childers Heaing and Air KINGS MOUNTAIN - Betty Jo Mauney Smith, age 85, resident of Kings Moun- tain, died February 4, 2015 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. She was born in New- ton, NC, daughter of the late Loy Daniel and Mollie Frye Mauney. In addition ‘to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an in- fant son and daughter, Lorri Smith Henson; two sisters, Ruby : Rozzell and Cirella Mauney and three brothers, Loy Daniel Mauney, Jr., Gus Mauney, and Jimmy Mauney. She was retired from Childers Heating and Air in Kings Mountain and a char- ter member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain to which she was very faith- ful. Survivors include her husband of 67 years John Robert “Bob” Smith, Kings Mountain; son John Robert Smith, II, and wife Twyla, W. Dr. Boyce Huffstetler, age 84, died February 8, 2015 after a very fulfilled and blessed life. He was married to his high school sweetheart Rose Marie Humphreys for 64 years. He was born November 11, 1930 to the late William Leonard Huffstetler and Cor- nelia McWhirter Huffstetler, Kings Mountain, NC. Boyce retired from the United Methodist Church of the Western North Carolina Conference, having faithfully served pastorates through- out his 44 years of ministry to our Lord and His Church. After retirement, Boyce con- tinued to minister as an Adult Sunday School teacher, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Po- lice Chaplain and as a Prison Chaplain with combined years of service over 65 years. Wittington said that Drew Meiers, 103 Butternut Drive, was slowing his 2013 Chrysler to turn into Country Creek from Shelby Road and a 1995 Ford op- erated by Kenneth Yar- baoro, 1817 Shelby Road, clipped the rear left fender of the Chrysler. FBI Offering Reward of up to $25,000 in Asha Degree Disappearance In conjunction with the 15th anniversary of the dis- appearance of 9-year-old Asha Degree, the Char- lotte Division of the FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her disappearance. FBI agents and em- ployees, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office investiga- tors, and State Bureau of Investigation agents are re-examining every aspect of the case, re-interview- ing witnesses, and follow- ing new leads to determine exactly what happened to Asha. On February 14, 2000, 9-year-old Asha Degree left her home in Shelby, North Carolina, in the mid- dle of the night and dis- appeared. Asha’s family last saw her asleep in her bedroom around 2:30 a.m. An hour and a half later, she was seen by drivers walking along North Caro- lina Highway 18 in Shelby, North Carolina. Her par- ents reported her missing by 6:30 a.m. More than a year later, Asha’s book bag was discovered buried along North Carolina High- way 18 in Burke County.
