KINGS MOUNTAIN
- Scott Cloninger, 66, died
Saturday, March 7, 2015, at
Carolinas Healthcare Kings
Mountain.
A
native of
Cleveland
County,
he was the
son of the
late Labon
Earl and
Mary Et-
ters Cloninger.
Scott graduated from
UNC Chapel Hill Law
School, and practiced law
from 1974-2014, retiring
from Cloninger & Neis-
ler Law Firm. He was a
member and past president
of Kings Mountain Rotary,
a member of White Plains
Masonic Lodge, and the
Cleveland County and NC
Bar Associations. He also
served as former Kings
Mountain District School
Board Attorney.
He is survived by his
loving wife, Kay Allen
Cloninger, of the home;
son, Allen Jason Tignor of
Cary; daughter, Sarah Ed-
monson and husband Brian
H. of Kings Mountain;
brothers Mark Alan Clon-
inger and wife Susan H. of
Kings Mountain, Joel Rus-
sell “Rusty” Cloninger and
wife Rhonda S. of Belton,
SC; grandchildren, Kae-
mon Silas Edmonson and
Bela Grae Edmonson, both
of Kings Mountain; nieces,
Laura Camp, Kristen Clon-
inger, Scottlyn Grace Clon-
inger; nephews, Joel and
Mitchell Cloninger.
Memorial services will
be held 3 p.m. Wednes-
day. March 11, 2015 at
First Baptist Church, Kings
Mountain, with officiat-
ing by Dr. John W. “Chip”
Sloan. The family will re-
ceive friends on Wednes-
day from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
in the Stain Glass Room at

the late Robert A. and Mary
Ann Blanton White, and was
preceded in death by one
brother, Obrean White and
two sisters, Margaret White
and Beatrice Cabaniss.
A member of Oak View
Baptist Church, Kings
Mountain, she was a Sunday
school teacher, member of
the choir and Women on Mis-
sions and Young at Heart. A
loving mother, grandmother,
and great grandmother she
was known for her candied
yams and pies. Retired from
Glenn Raven Mills in Kings
Mountain, she was for-
mer employee of the Kings
Mountain Senior Center Gift
Shop.
She is survived by her
son Harold D. Farris and
wife, Deborah, Kings Moun-
tain, NC; sister Roberta
Eaker, Kings Mountain, NC;
grandchildren Leanne Farris,
‘Gastonia, NC; Timothy Far-
ris and wife Ashley, Anna,
TX; great grandchildren
Sophia Farris and Riley Far-
ris; niece Elizabeth Kimble,
Kings Mountain.

ryville. A native of Cleve-
land County, she was the
daughter of the late Samuel
Dillworth and Sarah Etta
Wright Hord. A funeral ser-
vice was held Wednesday
in the chapel of Clay-Bar-
nette Funeral Home of
Kings Mountain. The fam-

hour prior to the service at

Grady Woods Jr., 71, died
Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at
his home. A native of Cleve-
land County, he was the son
of the late Grady and Flossie
Woods Sr. He worked many
years with the Shelby Police
Department, later working
for NC Department of Cor-
rections. He was a member
of Penley's Chapel in Kings
Mountain. A memorial ser-
vice was held 11 a.m. Fri-
day at Clay-Barnette Funeral
Home of Kings Mountain,
with officiating by Revs.

McGinnis said that Ronnie
Pope, Clover, SC, operat-
ing a 2013 GMC, struck a
2015 Chevrolet operated by
Stephanie Hughes of York,
SC on NC 161 at a work
zone. Property damages
were estimated at $2700.
FEB. 20: Officer Bryan
McGinnis said that Berry
Nicks Jr.,Gastonia, operat-
ing a 2004 Chevrolet, struck
a 2003 Honda operated by
Corinthy Guthrie,Gaffney
SC. The accident happened
on Charles Street and NC
161 as Nicks was pulling off |
from a stop sign on Charles
Street. Property damages |
were estimated at $2400.

Faulk Jr., Greer, SC, operat-
ing a 2007 Toyota, and Ivan
Vargas-Jimenez, operating
a 2003 Honda, struck each
other while backing in the
parking lot of Disney. Prop-
erty damage was estimated
at $2,000.
MARCH 3: Officer F.L.
Wittington said that a 2010
Ford operated by Melissa
Rush of Gastonia struck a
parked 2015 Mazda owned
by Michelle Sullivan of
Gastonia. The accident
happened on Dilling Street.
Property damage was esti-
mated at $3,000.

scammers
giving out millions
Beware of scammers
posing as representatives of
Publishers Clearing House.
Mark Blanton, the Her-
ald's advertising director,
received a bogus check for
$6,810.60 and a letter an-
nouncing that he was the
winner of a $2.5M pro-
motion with the. telephone
number of a claims man-
ager, also fictitious.
Blanton called the bank
listed on the check and
found that there was no
money.
Blanton turned a copy of
the letter and check into the
police department Tuesday
morning.
Virginia man charged
in Family Mart robbery
A Virginia man sought
by Kings Mountain Police as
suspect in the Feb. 24 armed
robbery of Linwood Family
Mart has been arrested in
Virginia and is being extra-
dited to Cleveland County,
according to Det. Captain
Derek Johnson.
The extradition papers
were signed Friday.
Kings Mountain po-
lice took warrants charging
Derek Sprouse with the
armed robbery of the conve-
nience store.

Mary Julia Pollock Plonk,
91, resident of Kings
Mountain, NC, died March
5, 2015 at Kings Mountain
Hospice House.
She was born in Kings
Mountain, NC to the late
Thomas Alexander Pollock
and Linnie Cudd Pollock.
She was also preceded in
death by her husband of
50 years, Clarence Samuel
Plonk, Jr.
She was a charter
member of Resurrection
Lutheran Church, Kings
Mountain,
where she sang in the
choir. Mrs. Plonk was a
homemaker, farmer’s wife,
and teacher with Kings
Mountain District Schools.
She formerly taught first
grade at West Elementary
School in Kings Mountain.
Surviving are sons
Thomas Plonk and wife
Becky, W. Columbia, SC;
Kenneth Plonk, Columbia,
SC; Michael S. Plonk and
wife, Sue, Rock Hill, SC;
Rev. Steven Plonk and
wife, Susan, W. Columbia,
SC, and Richard S. Plonk
of Kings Mountain; daugh-
ter, Judy Plonk Davis and
husband, Steve, Lakeland,
FL; 17 grandchildren and
10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive
friends Thursday evening,
March 12, 2015 from 6-8
p-m. at Harris Funeral
Home and one hour prior
to the service on Friday,
March 13, 2015.

March 13, 2015 at 2 p.m.
