Born in Cleveland County on November 7, 1940 he was the son of the late Jay Dee and Eva Gertrude Leigh Moss. Karl was a former member of Macedonia Bap- tist Church and a current member of Calvary Bap- tist Church. He served in the Vietnam Conflict and retired from the U. S. Air Force after 21 years of ser- vice. He also retired from the City of Charlotte as a Civil Engineer after many years of service. He enjoyed cook- ing and meeting people. In addition to his parents, Karl is preceded in death by a brother, Jay Moss Jr. and a sister, Martha Moss. Karl is survived by his wife of nine years, Mar- tha McSwain Moss; a son, Brian Moss of Shelby; a daughter,Carrie Messenger and husband Dan of Kings Mountain; stepson, Mark Greene and wife Sara of Shelby; a stepdaughter, Manya Greene of Ohio; a sister, Shirley Melton and husband David of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Reggie Moss and wife Kay of Kings Mountain and Eddie Moss and wife Peggy of Cartersville Ga.; sister- in-law, Gail Moss of Myrtle Beach; five grandchildren; The Kings Mountain Herald | www.kmherald.com one great grandchild; care- giver Larlee Geter; and his canine companion, “Tippy”. Marion Thomasson long active in community KINGS MOUNTAIN - Marion Groome Arthur Thomas- son, age 89, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at her home. She was born on January 8, 1926, in High Point, NC, to the late James Henri and Elizabeth Groome Arthur. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, former Kings Moun- tain attorney, George B. Thomasson. Mrs. Thomasson attended Brenau University in Gaines- ville, Georgia, and in 1950 she left for Tokyo, Japan, where she worked as an ad- ministrative assistant in the General Headquarters of the Far East Command until 1953, when she returned to Kings Mountain. She was an avid traveler and visited many countries around the world during her lifetime. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, the Thursday After- noon Book Club, and several bridge clubs in town. Previ- ously, she was a member of the Kings Mountain Wom- an’s Club, and she served on the Kings Mountain Board of Education in the 1970s and early 80s. She was well known for her beautiful home and gardens at her house on Phifer Road, which she and Mr. Thomasson purchased in 1955. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Thomasson Parker of Kings Mountain, her son-in-law, Paul G. Parker III, of Marietta, GA; granddaughter Elizabeth Grace Parker, Doylestown, PA; grandson George God- win Parker, Columbia, SC, and Marietta, GA; sisters Peggy Miller, Burlington, NC; Shirley Kinneman and husband Bob, Culpeper, VA; Jean Harris, Pasedena, TX, and Kings Mountain, NC; many nieces and nephews.
