Wednesday, May 27, 2015 The Kings Mountain Herald | www.kmherald.com Preparing For Battle: Tech Begins For “Liberty Mountain” By Caleb Ryan Sigmon T he drum beat be- gins. With the help of some clever GCalebSigmon scenery, the Joy Performance Center is, once again, being trans- formed into a tree-covered mountaintop. The muskets are being assigned. Costumes are being brought out of stor- age. Props are being mended and repaired from last fall’s tremendous opening season. “Liberty Mountain” is back! Bringing the story of the Battle of Kings Mountain to life is an immense task, and must be handled with great re- sponsibility. While maintain- ing the historic facts of how these brave heroes fought for our freedom, we are bring- ing an epic drama to life that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. You can expect to see live gunfire, blood, romance and a thrill- ing storyline about the people that truly “turned the tide” of the American Revolution. You’ve never seen history brought-to-life like this. The drama is written by Robert Inman, former newscaster on Charlotte’s WBTV and author of nu- merous books, movies and plays. Like much of Inman’s work, “Liberty Mountain” bolts from location to loca- tion including the Carolina backcountry, The Continental Congress, Indian Territory, The King’s Chambers and many other vital settings. Most importantly, the heroic play transports you to the top of Kings Mountain for the climactic battle that our story centers around. Using lots of dramatic lighting and special effects, a full team of creative artists make these transitions happen seamlessly without any drawn-out scene changes. “Long scenic shifts are pain- ful to watch.” says Katy Biser, a key player in the dra- ma’s production staff, “Leav- ing the audience sitting in the dark while technical hands scramble around onstage really de- tracts from the story. We want spectators to stay involved with what is happen- ing... en- gulfed in _1n fain’ show. the action ! surrounding them.” Tickets are already selling fast for this summer’s pro- duction. The show runs at the Joy Performance Center late- June through mid-July.
