301 to receive diplomas Saturday

It will be a day to remember!
Marching from the high school
"gymnasium and onto the field at
John Gamble Stadium Saturday,
June 6 they will be one of the larg-
est graduating classes in the history
of Kings Mountain High School.
'Pomp and Circumstance," the
traditional processional, will be
played by the KMHS 9th Grade
band as the 301 seniors move
quickly to the stage at 9 a.m. for the
commencement program.
Surrounded by cheering family
members and friends, the KMHS
Class of 2015 will make that once-
in-a-lifetime walk across the com-
mencement stage to receive their
diplomas.
The top two academic students,
the valedictorian and salutatorian,
will make the principal speeches
but their names are not announced
until after the completion of final
exams,
After all the presentations and
graduating seniors have their diplo-
mas in hand they will traditionally
toss their caps in the air and depart
for a new life in many directions.
Many seniors plan to go to college
in the fall, others already have jobs
waiting for them. Their class motto
could be the goal of all: “All our
dreams can come true, if we have
the courage to pursue them" a state-
ment by Walt Disney.
Students, their families and
friends attended Sunday night's
baccalaureate service in B. N.
Barnes Auditorium. Seniors partic-
ipated in the reading of scriptures
and presented special music.
A father and daughter — Rev.
Scott Carpenter and Erica Carpen-
ter — participated in the worship ser-
vice. President of the Senior Class,
Erica Carpenter, gave the address
of welcome and her father deliv-
ered the baccalaureate sermon on
the topic, “The completion of the
matter” based on the text from Ec-
clesiastes 12:9-14.
The commencement program
will feature seniors participating
in the program and in the special
music.
The Kings Mountain High
School 9th Grade Band will play
the traditional “Pomp and Circum-
stance” by Elgar as the seniors walk
from the KMHS gymnasium and
onto the high school football field.
Tanner Marc Odoms and Mal-
lory Elise Harris, co-presidents of
the Student Participation Organiza-
tion, will give the welcome.
Special music will be presented
by seniors from the Symphonic
Chorale who will sing McPhetters'
“Maybe Someday.”
Erica Elizabeth Carpenter, pres-
ident of the senior class, will pres-
ent the Class of 2015 followed by
the recognition of honor graduates
by Kaitlyn Nicole Carpenter, secre-
tary of the class of 2015.
The valedictory address will
be given prior to the presentation
of the class gift by Noah Garrison
Coleman, class treasurer.
The salutatory address will pre-
cede the presentation of diplomas
by Principal Ronny Funderburke,
Assistant Principal Julie Rikard and
Supt. Dr. Stephen Fisher.
Seniors will wear various colors
of cords with their gowns to desig-
nate the organizations in which they
were active on campus.
The National Honor Society
members will wear a white stole.
Members of the Beta Club, gold
cord; Renaissance club, turquoise
cord; National Technical Honor
Society, purple and white cord; Na-
tional, International Honor Thes-
pian, royal blue cord; National/
International Scholar Thespian,
royal blue and gold; TriM Music
Honor Society, light pink; National
Art Honor Society, multicolored
cord; Family Career and Commu-
nity Leaders of America, red and
white cord; Student Participation
Organization, blue cord; Interact
club, royal blue and white cord; and
Nursing Fundamentals Completers,
teal and white cord.
The Senior class song is “Up-
town Funk” by Bruno Mars; the
class flower is Tiger Lily.
