Over the Memorial Day weekend six Boy ‘Scouts and four adult leaders of Troop 92, sponsored by First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain, took a back-packing trip to the Jefferson National Forest and Mt. Rogers area. Mt. Rogers is the highest peak in Virginia. Along the way, they traveled through Grayson Highlands State Park, and visited assorted groups of wild ponies. The Troop camped their first night in the Rhododendron Gap meadows. The scouts worked on requirements for Cooking Merit Badge. The next morning the group summited the top of Mt. Rogers and proceeded to hike approximately 8 miles to their next camping spot. Nestled beside a small mountain creek, the group soaked their feet, collected fire wood, and cooked dinner. They had a short church service before taps and called it a night. packed up and hiked the 3 miles back to the church bus. Following an unex- pected “short cut” the group consumed mass quantities of pizza in West Jefferson and returned home that af- ternoon. Grace Christian Acad- emy recently graduated its second senior class on Sat- urday, May 16. The five se- nior students graduated with honors and college credit through Cleveland Com- munity College’s College Promise Program. Valedictorian Hannah Boston and Salutatorian Sierra Davis, both of Cleve- land County, gave remarks to their families, friends, faculty, and fellow gradu- ates, recounting fond mem- ories as well as excitement and encouragement for what comes next. Also among the graduates were Caleb Mor- gan, Sarah Loveless, and Brandon Spangler, all of Cleveland County. GCA also saw its 8th Kindergarten Graduation on Thursday, May 14. The thirteen adorable graduate’s will move on to first grade to continue with GCA. Lastly, GCA saw its first Preschool Graduation of four year olds to Kinder- garten. This was also the first group to graduate from GCA'’s Star Program that is rated by the State of North Carolina Department: of Health and Human Services, Division of Child Develop- ment and Early Education. GCA was given a 4 Star Rating, the highest possible scoring being 5 Stars. Their program is currently accept= ing applications for registra- tion for new preschoolers.
