He was born in Califor- nia to the late Carl Eckford Barnett and Marie Davis Stacey. He was also pre- ceded in death by his broth- ers, Marvin Barnett and Ronald Stacey. He was a good loving brother. He is survived by his sons Stephen and John Wesley, daughter Charlene, brothers Tony Barnett and Dallas Stacey and Douglas Millar. Dills, age 80, resident of Gastonia, N.C., formerly of Kings Moun- tain, NC went to her eter- nal home on June 19, 2015. She was born in Gaston County to the late Wil- liam K. Reagan and Ruth Reagan. She was also pre- ceded in death by her hus- band James I. Dills and 3 sisters. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved and served the Lord with all her heart. Mrs. Dills’ family would like to extend a spe- cial thanks to Anita Friday for her special care and love. A funeral service was held at Ollie Harris Memo- rial Chapel, Monday, June 22 at 2 p.m., with Tommy Lawson officiating. Visitation was from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday prior to the service at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Interment is at Moun- tain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina Vickey Grayson SHELBY - Vickey Church Grayson, 56, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at her home. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Fred- rick “Bill” and Mary Justice Church. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, and a volunteer with Hospice of Cleveland County. She had a love for the outdoors, and was a fighter and survi- vor of cancer for 12 years. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday at Union Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Michelle Goode KINGS MOUNTAIN - Helena Michelle Goode, age 37, resident of 105 N. Railroad Ave. Kings Moun- tain, NC died June 14, 2015. She was born in El Paso, TX. She loved fishing and reading. A family service was held at El Bethel United Method- ist Church Cemetery, Satur- day, June 20, at 10 a.m. Esther Griffin Plummer SHELBY - Esther Griffin Plummer, 99, passed away Wednesday June 17, 2015 at Cleveland Pines. A na- tive of Harris county, Texas, she was the daughter of the late John Reese and Anna E. Olin Griffin. A memorial service was held 10 a.m. Fri- day at Hoey United Meth- odist Church. Pair of KM YMCA softball teams advance to state tournament The summer time sure is sweet for the Kings Mountain Family YM- CA’s All-Star Baseball and Softball leagues! The Kings Mountain YMCA's All-Stars teams from both sports have been practicing for weeks since the end of regular season in prepara- tion for each league's Dixie Youth District tournament. The last few sizzling days of summer offered some difficult days for ball in the sun, however that didn't stop Head Coach Meshell Pence & Asst. Coach Larry Reynolds of the 9-10 All-Star team and Head Coach Deanna Har- mon of the 11-12 All-Star team from putting up a fight for the District Cham- pionship Title! Both Softball District tournaments took place at Boger City -over this past weekend. Meshell took her U-10 team through a 7-2 first game win followed by a 17-5 domination that cleared the way for a state tournament future! Deanna and the U-12 girls ad- vanced through their first game Thursday night with a 15-12 victory, followed by a 15-5 win on Saturday. The U-12 team brought home both the District Championship as well as the District Sportsmanship Award! The girls have worked tremendously hard this season and are not quite done yet, as both teams are scheduled to compete at the state level in Burgaw, NC on July 17-22. The Kings Mountain _ Family YMCA will be hosting the Dixie Youth 9-10 Kid Pitch Baseball District Tournament this Saturday, June 27 through July 1 where Kings Moun- tain will be putting two teams into the tournament to face neighboring teams like Bessemer City, Burke County, Tryon, West Lin- coln and Boger City. The winner of this tournament will advance to compete against teams from all over North Caro- lina at the Dixie State Tour- nament later this summer. WRECKS JUNE 6: Officer M.D. Butler said that vehicles operated by David Davis Sr., Bessemer City, and Reavan McDowell of Gro- ver collided at the entrance of Bojangles when Davis was turning his 2012 Chev- rolet into the parking lot. Property damages were es- timated at $4,000. BC-KM Rescue took the injured to Kings Mountain Hospital. JUNE 12: Officer J. L. Dee said that Kaleb Rost- meyer of Gastonia, op- erating a 2008 Hyundai, entered the intersection of Gold and Railroad Av- enue and struck a 2004 Chevrolet operated by Ni- cole Cabaniss, 1118 Phifer Road. Property damage was estimated at $4500. JUNE 12: Officer F. L. Wittington said that An- drew Phenix Brown, 1714 Kings Row Dr. Apt. 203, operating a 2007 Toyota, struck a 2007 Nissan op- erated by Rosie Green of: Charlotte. The accident happened on King Street. Property damages were minor. 7 JUNE 13: Officer J. L. Dee said that Gregory Lee Bradshaw of Besse- mer City, operating a 2008 Ford, turned his vehicle too close to the gas island at 314 N. Piedmont Ave. and hit the cement barrier be- tween the gas pump. Prop- erty damage was estimated at $1500. JUNE 15: Officer Kyle Bell said that Roy Irvin Bell, 105 Bain Rd., was attempting to change lanes in his 1994 Chevrolet and struck a 2001 Toyota op- erated by Cody Sage Odell Carpenter, 939 Stony Point Rd, also traveling East on US 74 Business. Property damage was minor. JUNE 16: Officer -Chi Ming Lai said that Robert Wayne Sayer, 144 Dunes Dr., operating a 2014 Mazda, backed into a 2005 Jaguar operated by Sergey Vichmoore, Conway, SC, at the drive-through at Mc- Donald's on York Road. Property damage was esti- mated at $2,000. JUNE 17: Officer F. L.; Wittington said that a 2010 Dodge operated by Donald Peter Judge, Fairfax, Va.. struck a 1997 Ford oper- ated by Jeffrey Thomas Williams, 1309 York Road. The accident happened on York Road as Williams was stopped for a red light at the off ramp from I-85 South to York Road. Williams tried to get his vehicle out of the way and the car was hit in the side after the Judge vehicle came off the guard rail. Judge was transported to Kings Mountain Hospi- tal. Property damages were estimated at $4,000. JUNE 17: A 2001 Jeep owned by Johnathan Frady, 5425 Creek Run Court, was struck by a hit and run driver in the parking lot of WalMart on Shelby Road. Property damage was esti- mated at $900. JUNE 17: Officer F. L. Wittington said that Na- thaniel A. Onunekwu, Aus- tell, Ga., lost control of his 2001 Mercedes Benz on I-85 south and was struck by a 2000 BMW operated by Tommy Malaythong, 101 Trotter Lane. Both drivers were taken to the hospital. Property damage was estimated at $7500. Public's help asked in identifying suspects The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help identi- fying four people involved in a larceny. On June 9, four people driving a white car entered the Foothills Pawn Shop lo- cated at 1740 Fallston Rd. Once inside one of the indi- viduals distracted the clerk while others stole electron- ics from the business. The crime was captured by the surveillance video.
