Page 2 B® OBITUARIES PAINE William Robert “Robbie” Bridges SHELBY - William Robert “Robbie” Bridges, age 51, a resident of 1305 S. Post , Rd., died June 24, 2015 at his home. He was born in Concord, NC, son of'the late Earl William and Margaret Louise Swink Bridges. He was employed by One on One in Shelby and a member of Midview Baptist Church in Kings PENNER Eas Mountain. Robbie loved racing and collecting hats, billfolds and wallets. He loved people and never met a stranger, Funeral services were held 2 p.m, Sunday, June 28, Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, Kings Mountain, Visitation was from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Harris Funeral Home. Interment is at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC. M.D. Cabaniss Jr. SHELBY - M.D. “Mousey” Cabaniss Jr., 81, died Friday, June 26, 2015, at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Mal- colm and Beatrice White Cabaniss Sr. He retired after 38 years, as a lineman with Southern Bell, and later worked for Lowes for 15 years. He was a mem- ber of Zion Baptist Church. M.D. loved to talk and ' share with others, and had a love for collecting and selling “merchandise” as he would call it. You could often find M.D. in one of his favorite two stores, U.A. Thrift and Goodwill. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Monday at Zion Baptist Church. Vis- itation was one prior to the service, at the church. Burial followed the service in the church cemetery. Bobby B. Fox SHELBY - Bobby Brean Fox, 78, of 941 Woodland Drive, passed away Mon- day June 22, 2015, at Wen- dover Hospice. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late William Amos and Gladys King Fox. A funeral service was held 3 p.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church. The family received friends one hour and thirty minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial was at the church’s cemetery. Helen Hamrick SHELBY- Helen Bry- ant Hamrick, 92, went to be with her Lord, June 23, 2015, at Hospice at Wen- dover. A native of Ruth- erford County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Molly Gilreath Bryant. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, and worked at Fiber Industries and Jack’s Fast Food. She loved to quilt, embroider, and play Bible trivia in the Star. She would enter the contest, win Bibles, and give them to others. Funeral services were held 6 p.m. Friday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. The family received friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home, and other times at her home. Burial followed in the church cem- etery. Edna C. Harrison KINGS MOUNTAIN - Edna Champion Harrison, age 77, a resident of Kings Mountain, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2015 at Caromont Health, Gas- tonia . She was born in Wake Co., NC, daughter of the late James Robert Champion, Sr. and Lind- sey Carroll Champion. William Dwight Ledbetter WWII Veteran KINGS MOUNTAIN- William Dwight Ledbetter, 92, passed away Monday June 29, 8.2015 “at White @Q ak Manor of Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland county, he was the son of the late Smith and Laura Gettys Ledbetter. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, proudly serving his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a Charter member of Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department and re- tired from the Lily Mills as Vice President and general Manager. In addition to his par- ents, he is preceded in death by one son, Dale Ledbetter; one brother, Robert Grover Ledbetter. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Gladys Pheagin Ledbetter; one daughter, Aloma Led- better Falls and husband - Bill of Kings Mountain; one sister, Ruby Wright of Shelby; four grandchil- dren, Jason Falls and wife Nancy of Kings Moun- tain, Natalie Penning- ton and husband Roy of Shelby, Andrea Navy and husband Sean of Grover, William Ledbetter, II and wife Christy of Germany; eight great- grandchildren, Angel Pennington, Bran- don Pennington, Ashley Falls, Nicholas Falls, Mat- thew Navy, Emma, So- phia, and Liam Ledbetter. The resident reported that the items were thrown on the floor of the house and bro- ken and damaged. WRECKS JUNE 17: Officer J. L, Dee said that Ayawna Wray, 5041 Pennington Place, Apt. 41, operating a 1998 Buick, struck a 2007 Honda oper- ated by Lisa Harrison, 117 Butternut Drive. The acci- dent happened on NC 161. Property damage was esti- mated at $3500. JUNE 19: Officer H. W. Carpenter said that a parked 2012 Toyota was slightly damaged by a hit and run driver. at 610 E., King St. The car is owned by David Ralph Myers, 934 Grace Street. Carpenter said he was provided with a: tag number for the red Ford Focus that hit the Myers car but the tag was not on file with either the North Caro- lina or South Carolina De- partment of Motor Vehicles. JUNE 20: Officer Chi Ming Lai said that the slid- ing door of a 2000 Ford Van operated by Kandice Neal, 118 E. Mountain St., came open as Neal was attempting to back from her driveway. Neal failed to put the car in park before attempting to close it and fell. The vehicle rolled onto S. Gaston Street and hit a utility pole. Emer- gency Medical Services re- sponded. Slight damage was reported to the car. JUNE 23: Officer D. K. Davis said that Kwanda Carpenter, Bessemer City, was backing her 2002 Chrysler from a Pennington Place driveway and struck a parked car owned by Clar- ence White, Blacksbsurg, SC. Slight damage was re- ported to both vehicles. ‘JUNE 24: Officer J. P. Price said that Tia Grimmett of Rutherfordton was back- ing from a parking space at Tom's Family Mart and bumped a 1993 Jeep oper- ated by Edward Lee Biddix, 126 Center Street. Slight damage was reported to both cars. Honor Roll The name of Savannah K-eona Teague, North School second grader, was inadvertently omitted from the list of North Elemetary honor roll students in last week's Herald. Savannah, granddaughter of Jackie and Savannah Lanier, was listed on the A/B Honor Roll. “We are very proud of Savannah," said her grandmother. To Johnson gets jail time, probation for larceny Kristina Johnson of Kings Mountain pled guilty in March to 4th de- gree grand larceny, a class E felony, and was jailed June 23 for 60 days and given five years probation in Steuben County, New York for offenses that took place in 2013 before she moved to Kings Moun- tain, Jeffery Smith of The Leader, reported in the newspaper's June 24 edi- tion. She must also pay $50,000 in restitution, with $30,000 due within the next seven days, accord- ing to Marianne Furfure, Steuben County Surrogate Court judge. An audit and investi- gation by the New York state comptroller's office found that from 2008-2013 Johnson, Riverside, NY clerk-treasurer, skimmed more than $35,000 in water and sewer payments, pay- ing herself as clerk-trea- surer an additional $40,000, according to The Leader, a total of $83,600 before being detected. The Steuben District Attorney's Office said Johnson used village funds to finance her household expenses and entertain- ment that included white- water rafting and Match. com., according to The Leader.
