The News IN HOSPITAL Mrs. H. C. Home re-entered Ire dell Memorial hospital on Sunday for further treatment. Neese Rev. Paul Lowder attended the Methodist Youth Camp at Camp Cherokee, South Carolina last week. Rev. Lowder was a member of the staff; directed the singing and recreation. Young people of the Methodist Churches of South Iredell attended the camp. Mrs. Paul Lowder spent last week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Claude Blackburn in Blont viile, Tenn. Mrs. Blackburn has been in a serious condition for quite sometime. Members of the Young Adult class of the Methodist church en joyed a chicken supper Saturday night at Henkels Lake, Turners burg. Mr. and Mrs. George Davis were host and hostess to the class. A large number of the members attended. Mrs. John Burton and Mrs. Dessie Shoemaker visited Mr. and Mrs. Sloan on the Mocksville road Friday. Miss Pat Rash of Charlotte spent the weekend with her par ents Mr. and Mrs. Lee Rash. Mrs. Nola Kinder spent the weekend at her home in Harmony. Mrs. Dessie Shoemaker visited Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Feimster Thursday. Visitors of Mrs. Dessie Shoe maker last week were: Mrs. Wade Jackson and children Michael and Tommy of Asheville; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Trivette and family of Harmony; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wil liams and Mrs. Robert Shoemaker of Olin. The Women of the Methodist Church sponsored a bake sale Saturday. The proceeds are to be applied on the organ recently purchased for the church. R. Red lack, Chairman of the Statesville Recreation Commission; G. L. Wil son, past president of the States ville Lions Club, which made pos sible the building of the high school stadium; W. M. Littlejohn, a member of the Recreation Com mission, and Mayor J. G. Bagnal, Jr., who has served as mayor dur ing the period that the fine new recreation facilities have been built in Statesville. Mayor Bagnal due to other commitments was un able to be present for the presen tation of the award made by Jack H. Springer, local Superintendent of Recreation, and a member of the National Recreation Associa tion at the monthly meeting of the Statesville Recreaion Commis sion held at the Chamber of Com merce Building. The four award winners were further honored by election to honorary membership in the Na tional Recreation Association's Southern District. The honors were forwarded to Superintendent Jack Springer for presentation from Ot to T. Mallery, Chairman of the Association's Board of Directors. Joseph Prendergast is the Execu tive Director of the N. R. A. Only 220 such awards were made in the United States. The awards were made as a part of the 50th. Anniversary celebration of the Association. The actual contributions made in time, money and effort for rec reation vary as much as the occu pations of the award winners. Gifts to the community of land, buildings, parks and playgrounds, swimming pools and golf courses from private citizens total millions of dollars. Other award winners made extraordinary contributions of time and energy to organize rec reation departments, serve on boards and commissions, lead teen age activities, coach athletic teams and head campaigns for recreation bond issues.
