F. P. Latham has inade applica tion to the State Utilities Commis sion for permission to construct and ; j lis ii; ii! ii! t : operate toil lints between Swan Quae ter, New Holland, Eng-dhard and ether points in Hyde county. At the present time Er.gelhavd bears the unique imputation of being amiong th few tiwns in tha case that doesn't have telephone or tele graph facilities within 25 miles. It will be recalled that the Brr.k at Engelhrrd was, so far as we can learn, the only bank in the United States that remained open the first day of fhe President's declaration cf a bank holiday due to the lack of communication. Whether cr not the citizens of En gelhard and other communities throughout the county will consider having a private telephons installed in their residence or place of busi ness, the main question should be to get the line extended into the com munity if they got but one con nection and that the whole com munity with all the citizens assessed for tie cost. o SNAW QUARTER NEWS Mrs. R. Miss Neila Weton left Wednes day for Canada and other northern pointts. Ben Credle is still very ill at his home having contracted pneumonia with meases. Miss Mi'dred Combs spent Tuesday here attending to business. Mis3 Elizabeth Gibbs left Sunday for Bay View where she has accept ed a position for the remainder of the summer season.
