About 300 industrialists,
government ofticiais, and
businessmen attended a din
ner Wednesday night at the
Sheiby Eiks Club in honor of
Cleveland County's 145 in
dustries.
The dinner was sponsored
by the city of Kings Mountain
city of Shelby, County of
Cleveland, and the Shelby
Chamber of Commerce, and
concluded a day-long obser
vance spotlighting local in
dustries.
Robert Scoggln, chamber
president, said the attendance
exemplified the spirit of
Cleveland County as it obser
ved Industrial Appreciation
Week throughout the state.
Several companies had dis
plays of their products ex
hibited in the ballroom.
Guest speaker for the ap
preciation dinner was Roy
Sowers, Chairman of the
North Carolina Dept, of Con
servation and Development.
Sowers told his audience
that Cleveland County has
helped shape the history of
North Carolina, and cited the
county’s share in the state’s
economic development, point-
ingout that 100,000,000 - dol
lars has been spent in capital
development by Industries in
Cleveland County, providinga
$107 average weekly wage.
He then Issued a warning that
"We must not become so sat
isfied with what we’re doing
that we forget the people in
our state. It is for the people
that North Carolina is inter
ested in industry and natural
resources.
