Teacher of Month Named Two KMHS seniors, Martha Weiss and Jeff Redden, were elected by the KMHS faculty this week as ACT Good Citi zens of the Year. Jeff's cur riculum Includes English Vo cabulary and English Litera ture, Economics and So ciology, and World History. He is the editor of the 1972 KMHS annual, the *'Mlle- stone", and serves as presi dent oftheMonogramCluband vice - president of the Key Club. Jeff is a member of the Kings Mountain Chapter of Demolay and formerly served as Master Counselor of the chapter. Martha Weiss Is presently employed by the Kings Moun tain Hospital and plans to con tinue her education at the Un iversity of South Carolina where she will major in nur sing. Martha serves as Teen Correspondent for the Shelby Dally Star, and is a member of the KMHS Human Relations Council. Her dally schedule includes English Literature and Composition, OfficeAide, World History, Advanced Al gebra and Trigonometry and Chemistry II, The Kings Mountain Chapter of the Future Homemakers of America met this week during an assembly period on Thurs day, May 4. The meeting was video-taped by Mr. Carl O. MeWhirter, KMHS faculty member. FHA purposes and activities were explained by various members and officers of the club. This tape will be used as an introduction to the FHA for future club members. Our National Honor Society enjoyed a cookout-meeting at the National Park on Monday night, May 1. Those present Included NHS members of the preceding year and those re cently inducted from the pre sent junior class. Mrs, Sara Griffin, sponsor of the honor society acted as chaperone for the group. During the meet ing, officers were chosen to serve during the next year. Tim Echols, this year's pre sident of the National Honor Society, presided over the meeting. Twenty-eight members of the KMHS Science Club traveled to Pisgah National Forest this past weekend for a camping trip. The campers. Including Mr. Phil “Uncle" Bryson, Mr. Hugh Putnam, Miss Kathy Medlock, and Miss Juanita Warren, enjoyed a 5 mile hike to the campsite, a chilling trip down Sliding Rock, and an ed ucational journey to the Cradle of Forestry in Pink Beds, N. C. Mr. Putnam pro vided entertainment for the group with a round trip in his Bronco over the wilderness roads. The group, with Ricky Starnes as bus driver, left KMHS on Saturday morning about 8;30 and returned Sun day night. Mrs. Ben T. (Juanita) Go forth was voted by students as top teacher for the month of April. This came as * ‘ quite a surprise", said Mrs. Go forth, who has experienced teaching at almost every le vel. When asked what makes teaching enjoyable, Mrs. Go forth says that being with young people is the best part. “The /young people's view point keeps me alert and makes life more interesting." Mrs. Goforth's dry wit and lively classroom antics nave captured the hearts of many KMHS students throughout the years. She says that as of now she plans an early retirement, but may miss teaching and re turn. I hope so. KMHS juniors and seniors and their dates were treated to a most attractive and enjoya ble Junior-Senior on Frldky night. Mays,from8:00-12:00, The theme for the prom was “Moonlight and Roses”, which was carried out in gym and table decorations. Music was provided by the Nantucket Sledgerlde, who were areally great group. Sophomore class waiters and waitresses aided in serving the guests and seating them at tables. Our thanks to the junior class for the fine job they did in prepa ration for the dance and esp ecially to Mrs. Raymer,Mrs. Tommy (Kathy) Goforth, and Mrs. Juanita Goforth, who were instrumental in the Ju nior-Senior's success.
