PAGE 8, KINGS MOUNTAIN MIRROR, WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 1972 GROVER NEWS by Jackie Rountree I told you we would be merry In May, and by GRANNY we are merry in May!!! Jenny Reid Is a sister. Joe jumped up another uncle-notch. Bub- ba bubbled-up another notch. Holly ante-upped her auntie status. Jim popped-up a son. Jaquitha Mother-Dayed again on Thursday. Laura first- cousined lor the 7th time. Ginger nephewed for the 4th time; Cindy for the first time. Mary Reid got merrier. Glenn and Richard got grander. Jackie jumped and Jackie bub bled. She merrled, grinned and granded and jubllled be cause little fat Jonathan join ed Grover News. We proudly proclaim the birth of Jonathan William Reid, May 18, 1972; 12;20 a.m. Merrily, merrily, merrily may he grow along. The Good Camper, Cucllst, Motorist, VoterAwardgoesto David and Brenda Herndon this month. They were at Woodlawn Camp Grounds in the York vicinity on Primary Voting Day. They motorcy cled into town just to vote and be eligble for this award, then returned to their camp site. We clap citizen’s anolause to them!!! After Paul and Mil dred won the Good Scout A- ward last week for sleeping the eleven wet scouts, they took off for the beach this weekend to see if the rain down there is any dryer. 1 didn’t see them, but Fannie said Billy Ray Kiser and his family were here from Green sboro. They’ve been trying to get here since Easter Sunday. Saw JerrySmlthat church. He must be home from USC lor the summer. Thelma Ham- bright is home again and re ports a favorable report from Catchie. They tell me Bess is home again, home again, home again, home again-— She’s gone and come every- which-a-way. She and Sady and Ann returned from Flor ida last Monday. Mrs. Crisp is home too. We did our best to swap a sorry for a merry. We both know how sorry it is to give back a brother and how merry it is to receive a grandbaby. Be cause a man lives into his filth score and has much age on him, makes him no less a brother or a man. Because a baby has but four days of age on him, and doesn’t do a thing to earn his keep except by be- ant to mankind potent^ly. Abraham, Moses, Samuel, John and Jesus started out as babies. And Methuselah too. Oh! How GOOD it Is that sor- rles and merries can mix and mingle!! To Pearl: We’ve missed your pies and plants and pansies and we’ve missed you for a long, long time. We’ll keepon missing you, because we’ll keep on remembering. It isn’t easy to make a Real Pearl. It takes some pricks and pain- some friction and a lot of en durance, but a Pearl is worth it all. It isn’t easy to make a Pearl. It’s just easy to cher ish a Pearl. Do want to acknowledge the superb May Day Production at Grover School week before last, Those imps got in the camera and messed up all the film. The write-up was held over in hopes a photograph could be found to accompany the write-up. Bloodmobile and Girl Scouts took up most of the daylight hours last Tuesday. In the early evening we went to the Drop-In Bridal Shower hon oring Miss Debbie Deaton, Bride-Elect of Chip Mont gomery, given by four of Chip’s aunts. Debbie and 1 are both Charter Members of Grover’s First Junior Girl Scout Troop. Now here we are a bride and a granny. After the shower we went to the school gym to enroll in the exercise class which is a- nother service provided by our Community Colleges. Wa- nza Davis is going to show us how to get as thin as she is. So, come stretch and strain, grunt and groan and see the Inches exit — merrily, of course. After Wednesday there were Rountrees and Reids coming from everywhere — Boone, Raeford, Ft. Bragg, Pilot Mtn., Raleigh, Charlotte, Sh elby, Davidson. We visited a little with all and wedged in a little dining out — had birth days — got the baby home — went to recitals — a wedding and reception — cookout — Sunday School—Church-- and to the very nice Masonic Get- To - Gether Friday Night. (Wore the same Mother’sDay Orchid to everything.) The guest speaker, Mr. Wilbur Smith, made us aware that life is both a funny and seri ous business. The Rescue Squad Building was very fes tive with flowers supplied by The Grover Florist. We took one of the blue carnations to Franklin in the hospital. He was pleased to have us think ing of him. Mr. and Mrs. Smith came fromRutherford- ton. Said Miss Bessie Turn er is just as beautiful as ev er. Joe jumped up another notch and another year too. Not sure if Bubba bubbled up another year or if he’s beginning to try to bump one off here and there. We were chatting about this at the Masonic Supper Friday Night. When I was at his current aee. 1 remember thinking too that 1 had an earthly eternity to do all the things there are to do in the life time hereabouts. Joe hadn’t even jumped then. Jac kie’s stayed on a jump--and a hop--and a skip--With every hop, skip, jump, and jog, “that eternity’’ seems toshrlnkand The Eternity Time takes up the stretch —- But like the song says, “1 know not what the future holds, but 1 know Who holds the future.’’ The wedding we attended was Indeed merry. The bride gig gled her way through the cer emony. Her sister Matrnn- of - Honor flew in from Cal ifornia just to look after the bride’s ring lor the groom- then left it in another part of the church. The bride giggled at pretending to put on a ring. The Matron-of-Honor rede emed herself by singing very beautifully— “And They’ll Know We Are Christians By Our Love.” As we wind up this week’s Grover News 1 find myself In a complete state of perplex ity. 1 can understand Judy’s five aunt’s bringing their vac uum cleaners to clean her house. 1 see why Seven Sis ters would lunch together for the funofit—whyScotty’ssls- ter from Charlotte would help him look after the petunias. 1 can understand all this co operation. But why would Bobby Ridgeway, an office employee, be cutting Annie Jim’s hedge after office hours? Could this be a Com munity College Extension Co urse? If so, why wasn’t our hedge considered? Could Bob by be moonlighting in the day light? Is this the beginning of a Community Cooperation Corporation? Let’s don’t hedge about being merry on into another week! Dressed in white carrvinv red flowers, the May Queen, Rose Martin i made a regal entry before be ing crowned and kissed by Principal Scruggs. In the program that followed, the sixth grade boys did an ex ercise routine to “Rockin’ Robin.” While the sixth gra ders sang a medley of songs including “Bicycle Built for Two,” Angella BollnandDa- vld Hambright rode around the school on a tandem while dressed in costumes of the gay nineties. A very funny dance to the time of "The Hokey Pokey” was performed by eleven boys and girls, some ofwhom had diffi culty in keeping their “pants” up. The audience of younger children and parents thought this was just hilarious. The sixth grade girls danced around the may pole to the tune of “Gay Ranchero” and the final item was “Zip-A-Dee- Dah sung by all the sixth grade.
