Tbe industrial league got back into acUon also on Mon day as Craftspun, Gastonia Knit and Carolina Throwing won games. As we go to press. Champion’s #2 and Carolina Throwing are Ued, but met head-on Tuesday night. The District 23 Tournament wUl get underway July 20that City Stadium. Commissioner Bob Wiggins expects a fine turnout for the turnout. The American Legion team Is having a good season this year. After a so-so start, they eliminated Shelby andaretled with Forest City In a playoff werles. Let’s hope they go all the way. I would like to take time out to thank all of my teammates on Carolina Throwing and Temple Baptist for helping me approach a goal of mine. Jerry Adams, who grew up iiTKlngs Mountain and Belmont has been named to head the Yellow Jackets foot ball team. Adams wasborn In Washing ton, D.C. but his early years were spent in the Greater Kings Mountain area. He gra duated from Kings Mountain High in 1961 as a letterman in football, basketball and base ball. In his Junior and senior years hewonall-stateandall- Southwest 3-A Conference ho nors. From high school Adams we nt to Western Carolina on a football scholarship. While In college he lettered In football all four years as a regular. Upon his graduation, Kansas City and Atlanta offered Jerry a chance at making their tea ms but he turned instead to teaching. Adams has spent most of bis teaching ,time In Pageland, South Carolina and York. In York his coaching duties In cluded assistant in football, head coach In Junior varsity basketball and bead coach In baseball. He has expressed happiness over being back in the area and hopes to initiate a winning season to get things going. He is married to the former Edith Kincaid of Kings Moun tain and they have two child ren, Teresa, 2, and Patricia, six months old. Babe Kuth Teams Win In Tournament BABE RUTH GAME ACTION The Kings Mountain Babe Ruth All-Star teams both won opening round games In the two tournaments. The 13 year old team traveled to Charlotte to beat that team 7 to 5. Larry Goins pitched a 5-hitter for the local lads. Joel Burgess went 3 for 3 In cluding two home runs. In the 14-15 year old division, Jeff Carroll hurled Kings Mo untain past Union County by a 3 to 0 score. Carroll struck out 7 while walking only 2 and gave up only 3 hits. Jackie Wray and David Lancaster both tripled for Kings Mount ain. In the other 14-15 game. Park Road Optimist of Char lotte won over Matthews All- Stars by 4 to 3. The teams will continue play in the double elimination event today with the 13 year olds playing Charlottea^lnforthe 13 year old crown.
