Man Arrested After Third West School Break-In It was "three strikes you’re out" as far as the recent school break-ins go as the third time resulted in an arrest. According'to KMPD Police Chief Tom McDevitt, Robert J. Smith. 33, of the Chester field Arms Apartments was apprehended last Wednesday and charged with two counts of breaking, entering and larceny. West School had been plagued by thieves the past two or three weeks. Last Tuesday, West was hit for the second time and a quantity of food was taken. However the thieves did not far as well Wednesday night after sUging the third break- in. McDevitt said the theft was reported Wednesday and when the police arrived, the robbers had fled. Some crates of oranges, cheese and butter were found outside the building, apparently placed there by the yeggs. .McDevitt said he talked with a few neighbors and people in the area and was aided by assistant school superintendent. Bill Bates. The chief said he also received help from some Kings .Mountain Junior Police in making the arrest. The Tuesday break-in was investigated by Sgt. T. F. King and Ptl. Houston Corn. The officers obtained some fingerprints and some foot prints around the school windows. The chief said with these clues, the police were able to arrest Smith from a residence on Ellis St. and charged him with the larcenies. Lt. Bob Hayes of the KMPD investigated the accident and reported Essie Yoder Huss of Rt. 2, Box 573, Bessemer City was making a left turn off Parker St. onto Dilling SL in the city when the car ran off the right side of the road. Hayes was told Ms. Huss was afraid the car was going to get stuck up and she speeded up, went back across the road and hit a utility pole. Ms. Huss, and a passenger Barbara Fralick of 207 N. lOth St., in Bessemer City were taken to tbe Kings Mountain Hospital with injuries. Three .other passengers in the auto were not hurt. Damage to the auto was listed at $600. The wreck occurred at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Bell announce the birth of a son, Matthew Curtis, born Jan. 2, 1974 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. The Bell’s reside in Kings Mountain. Matt weighed in at birth at seven lbs., five and a half ozs. Maternal grandparents are Mrs. MableDixon and Charles Dixon of Kings Mountain. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bell of Kings Mountain.
