LAYTON ... note 40th wedding anniversary CODAP Where Kids Get High On Life County schools have experi mented with drugs and the nationwide statistic is seven of tai. There is a limited per centage of people who become addicted to drugs. Sample believes this is a na tural trend, because young people are so exposed to the drug scene. “They see their (From Page IB) parents smdcing or drinking”, he said, “And so they say if Mom and Dad can do it, I can.” “Adults are sending a mes sage to our young people”, he declared. Sample said youngsters in sixth and seventh grades are experimenting with glue Northshores on John Henry Moss Lake Lakefront and Lakeview Lots V2 Acre and Up 1,000°” In Cash Faunce Realty, Inc., will return $1,000.00 in cash to the first five lot clwners who complete con struction of a home in Northshores!! What’s the object? Sample says kids “want to get high.” They want to see if drugs will affect them like they have heard. He abhors what he termed scare tactics which began as a nation-wide effort in 1968 to deal with the drug problem. Trying to “scare the daylights out of your kids” only tends to “turn them off” and widens the gulf between kids and adults. CODAP does not emphasize a strictly informational pro gram, because, declared Sample, when you “show drugs like they are, how to shoot it, etc. you encourage and or glamorize drug usage. ” What kids buy on the streets via ill^al channels are dan gerous, said Sample, because more times than not they don’t get what they buy. One of the drugs sold in ill^al traffic is an animal tranquilizer PCP, he said. Sample said he envisims that the board of CODAP will soon include a youth member from each of the high schools in the county. Rotarian Jerry King was program chairman and pre sented Mr. Sample.
