Page 6B—MIRROR-HERALD—Thursday, October 16, 1975 Winthrop Writers Confeb Manuscripts Due Nov. 1 ROCK HILL — Manuscripts are due Nov. 1 for the second annual Winthrop College Writers’ Conference, to be held this year Nov. 20-22 at Joynes Center for Continuing Education. Sponsored jointly by Joynes Center, the National Endow ment for the Arts and the South Carolina Arts Commis- ' sion, the seminar is open to both published writers and those who have not published. ' The main goal of the con ference is to encourage writ ers in this geographic area to develop their literary talent. Experts in all areas of writing will be on hand for consultation, and those sub mitting manuscripts in ad vance wiU be entitled to a pri vate conference with an ap propriate workshop leader. AH participants will have the opportunity to work with an editor, agent or specialist in their field of interest. Scheduled workshops in clude two sections of poetry, one section each in short story, children’s fiction, novel and nonfiction writing. Persons submitting manu scripts for any of the work shop sections should send them typed (doubled spaced) and clearly marked for the ap propriate workshop to Joynes Center for Continuing Educa tion, Winthrop College, Rock Hill, S. C. 29733. They will be returned at the conference. Poetry manuscripts should be no more than six-onepage poems; novels should have a representative chapter and outline; two short stories may be submitted; three articles of nonfiction or a representative chapter and outline of a longer work; children’s fiction should be limited to 2,500 words. Fee for the conference is $35, and accommodations are available through Joynes Center. Those interested in at tending should contact Joynes Center for Continuing Educa tion by Nov. 14 to register.
