The all-stars are blessed with good hitters as evidenced by their five home runs In the district championship game. KM will play Alexander County’s all-stars at 8 p.m. Coaches Jim White, Kyle Smith and Don Bills expect to be strong In pitching and defense and adequate In the hitting department. Kings Mountain has been preparing for the state event for three weeks. The local nine did not have to compete In any district or area tournaments because they’re the only 18 year old team In Area B. The winner of the Statesville tournament will earn a berth In the Southeast Reglonals beginning next weekend In Charlotte. "I expect the state field to be pretty evenly balanced,” said White, who coached a 13 year old team to a third place finish In the Southeast five years ago. "With Charlotte hosting the regional, they’ll not be competing In the state, so we should stand a real good chance.” Ricky Proctor, who hurled lor the local high school nine last spring, wUl probably get the pitching assignment against JIM WHITE Alexander County.
