McCurdy was a former resident of Kings Mountain during the period 1M7*72. He was a retired business man. He formerly owned McCurdy Dry Cleaners and Shoe Repair, the Silver Villa Restaurant and the Cottonwood Restaurant, and was In strumental In the for mation of the Western Carolina Baseball League and owned one of the first teams In the newly formed league. Services were held at Manes Funeral Chapel In Newport, Tennessee on Sun., Sept. and. Interment was in Union Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. Frank Bell of Webb Baptist Church and Rev. Thomas Mooty of West End Baptist Church of Newport, Tennessee. McCurdy was the son of John William McCurdy of Jerrysvllle, Illinois, and Viola Brewer McCurdy of Statesville, N.C. and was boni In Hlddenite, N.C. Nov. aand, 1616. ' Surviving are his wife, Frances Boley McCurdy of the home, and three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Bellenger of Blrmln^am, Alabama, Mrs. Msiry Anne Bally of Cary, N.C., and Ms. Vickie McCurdy, a Rudent at the University of Fla., two brothers, Her man McCurdy of Riviera Beach, Fla., Jaunes Mc Curdy of Lake Park, Fla., and a sister, Ms. Thelma McCurdy of Jacksonville, Fla., and three grand children, Norman, Ellen, and Catherine of Alabama and North Carolina. REV. THORNBURG Funeral services for Rev. George H. Thorn burg, 67, of Cleveland Avenue, Grover, were conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Bastslde Baptist Church In Blacksburg. Rev. Thornburg, former pastor of Allen Memorial Baptist Church, died Monday in the VA Hospltsd In Oteen following an Illness of several months. Rev. Mamsee Hampton, Rev. W.F. Monroe and Dr. James Talbert officiated. Burial was In Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Thornburg was a graduate of Clear Creek Bible School in Plnevllle, Ky. He pastored churches in Callaway ^nd Flat Lake, Ky., Smyrna, S.C., and Bessemer City. Survivors Include his wife, Billie Bookout Thornburg: two sons, Darrell Thornburg of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Mark Thornburg of Grover; a daughter, Mrs. Vicki Smith of Grover; two brothers, James Thorn burg of Kings Mountain and Rev.
