)’S » )) Conner Trial Begins The A Jury was selected this week In Statesville In the second trial of Donald Conner, Sr., 45, of Kings Mountain, for the attempted bom bing of the residence of Oaston County Sheriff C.L. (Sarge) Waldrep. If convicted, Conner could receive llfb imprisonment. The prodl(cutlon’s key witness, Jeffrey Thompson, 18, of Kings Mountain, has pled guilty to the bombing attempt and also faces possible life Imprisonment. During the first trial. In which a Catawba County Jury deadlocked in favor of acquitting Conner, ac cessory charges against three other relatives of Conner were dropped. Those charges were against Mrs. Conner, their son, Don, Jr. and their brother-in-law, Johnny Stewart. Thompdbn testified In the first trial that he obtained dynamite for Conner, Sr. and that another man, (a long-haired dude) he did not know by name, placed the bomb on Waldrep's porch. He and his wife, NatUe Lysek Greene, have been married 15 years and they are parents of two children, Carl, Jr., 14, and Paul, 11. Greene Is self-employed and Is a Mason. REVIVAL SERVICES Rev. Robert Abrams of Gardner Webb College In Bolling Springs will be evangelist for revival services beginning Sunday and continuing through Oct. 10 at Antioch baptist Church near Grover. Rev. Street Im provements are on the agenda for the meeting. SCHOOLBOARD Kings Mountain Board of Education will meet Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at Central School for the regular monthly meeting. FRIDAY DEADLINE Friday at noon is the deadline for candidates to register for an outside seat on the KM Board of Education and for mayor and commissioner of Grover.
