i***e 1C—KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD—ThundBy, November 8, 1971 Second Break-In In Three Weeks At City Stadium Thieves Cart Off Optimist Football Equipment Thieves broke Into the City Stadium Field House tor the second thlme In three weeks Friday night and carted off aU the equipment belonging to the thrM Optimist club and youth tootbaU teams. "It’s a disgrace that they’re stealing from these kids," said Coach WiU Sanders. ‘'This Is the second time this year we’ve had our equipment stolen and twice last year." Sanders said the stadium was locked, and according to police reports, thieves went over the fence, pried the latch and lock off the door as well as the metal door on the outside and the wooden Inside door. "We didn’t even have a ball to play the final game Monday night,” said Sanders, who said he had to go out and pay $27 for a tootball. Sanders said that local Optimists would ap preciate any “help In getting all our equipment back. If anyone notices a person wearing one of our Jerseys, please let us know. Last year, he said the club was able to recover some of the jersey. Mr. Sanders said he Is distressed that three weeks ago when thieves cut a hole In the concession stand and went through the top that the local police did not Investigate. Sanders says he called police. Records Clerk Marti Southards could find no record of the complaint and report of investigation. Sanders said that Optimist coaches repaired the fence. Police estimated the value of Optimist goods stolen on Friday night at $291. In other law en forcement activities: George Scharf, 112 N. Piedmont Ave., reported Biimgardner And Bryant Have Program Kathy Rhea Bumgard- ner and Rev. Gary Bryant entertained Gold Star Mothers, Fathers, Sisters and Wives at the annual Gold 4itar Banquet Hiursday night of Otis D. Green Unit 18S at the American Legion Building. Mrs. Bumgardner and Rev. Mr. Bryant are members of ’’The Images,” a singing group at First Presbyterian Church of which Rev. Bryant Is pastor. The program featured solo numbers by both and duets, ending with a special rendition of "Amazing Grace.” Rev. Bryant accompanied on guitar. Mrs. Jackie Barrett arranged the program. Gold Star guests were ■emembered with gifts which were presented prior to the program. Mrs. Clara Rhea, unit president, presided over business of the meeting. She announced that Mrs. Barrett, District 23 president. Miss Elizabeth Stewart, a past state president, Mrs. Rachel Ledford and Mrs. Brenda Beattie would represent the Unit at the annual Fall Conference In Asheville (luring the weekend. Mrs. Rhea also Invited mem bers to contribute to a bake sale to be conducted during the American Legion Post’s big yard sale, to be held on Saturday, at the American Legion Building. Pat Spearman, of Rt. 4, reported the theft of one hubcap from a 18TB Ford Elite, valued at $76. Janet Short, Rt. 4, an employe of KM Plaza, reported the larceny of her purse from an office In the Plaza, estimated value $17 In cash plus credit cards. Lewis Dellinger, of 404 Hawthorne Dr., reported that while his family was asleep r riday night, someone tore a screen from a window of his house and t(x>k about $800 from his wallet and from his wife’s purse. Rita Cobb, of 611 W. Gold St., reported theft of a girls bicycle, valued at $20. Linda Lawson, 210 Parrish Dr., reported that vandals threw a brick and bottle at two windows of her residence, estimating property damages at $200. Ricky Hammer, of 1U8 E.
