The funds, granted under the Com prehensive Bm- Idoyment and Training (CBTA), will provide training to Improve and upgrade employability aklUs and allowances to cover living expenses. The program Is designed to remove recipients of Aid to Families with Depen dent ChUdren (AFDC) from welfare rolls through gainful em ployment and to aid high school dropouts in obtaining skills to pass the OBD examination. The ultimate ob jective Is to either place program participants In unsubsldlaed em ployment or to enroll them at Cleveland Technical Institute. The division, an agency of the Depart ment of Natural Resources and Com munity Development, administers CBTA funds In 91 counties. It la responsible for statewide planning and policy development of employment and training programs. The division administered $104,612,861 in CBTA funds for programs In which 77,976 par ticipants were enrolled In the fiscal year ending September 80, 1979. Open House Is Scheduled Open house for the career development center for displaced homemakers has been slated for Mon., Nov. 19, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. The center for displaced homemakers Is located In the basement of Oeveland Tech’s Annex In downtown Shelby. Senator Helen Rhyne Marvin, of North Carolina 26th senatorial district, will speak and officially open the center for the state at 12 noon. Henry McCoy, assistant secretary for the North Carolina department of ad ministration, will assist ienator' Marvin In the opening. Ms. Miriam Dorsey, executive director of the North I Carolina Council on the status of women, will welcome the visitors along with Ms. Patricia Evans, center director and staff BUle Buse, Ms. Rita Conte, Ms. Cynthia Gardner, and lola Dillingham. "We’re Inviting all persons to tour the facilities, meet the staff and trainees, and find out what we’re doing,” said Ms. Evans. The career development centers for displaced homemakers are funded by the Comprehensive Em ployment and ’Training Act (CBTA) and are administered by the North Carolina department of ad ministration. TTie center in Shelby, one of tour in North Carolina, Is coordinated by Cleveland Tech. The service area includes Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Rutherford, and Cleveland Counties. Coutracts Are Awarded r> > Cleveland County has been awarded two ^contracts totaling $266,106 by the Division of Community Em ployment to provide employment and training to 86 of the counties’ economically disadvantaged, un employed or un deremployed persons. ^ The contracts were awarded through the Comprehensive Em ployment and ’Training ACT (CBTA). A contract for $19,208 was awarded $246,898 to help get Jobs and training for veterans, recipients of Aid to I Families with Depen dent Children (AFDC), blacks and women. Seventy-six Jobs are available li: such areas as teacher aide, maintenance, eligibility specialist, maid, social worker, 13^*191, health educator, clerk and radio maintenance.
