Also surviving are three KANNAPOLIS - Funeral services for Mrs. Artie Cora Baker, 68, who died at her home Sunday evening, will be con ducted Thursday at 2 p.m. from Whitney Funeral Chapel, In terment following In Carolina Memorial Park at Concord. Mrs. Baker Is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Baker; two sons, Fred Baker of Baltimore, Md. and Jerry Baker of Spar tanburg, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. William Williams of Marietta. Ga.; four sisters, Mrs. Priscilla Hunter and Mrs. Doris Lanier, both of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Ola Mitchell of Lawren- cevllle, Ga. aind Mrs. Janie Eanes of Cheraw, S.C. Dr. Shank Opens Office In Gastonia Dr. Richard A. Shank, of Kings Mountain, announces the opening of an office for the Joint iractlce of optometry, with Dr. R.W. Bynum. This office, at 428 W. Franklin St. In Gastonia, will Include contact lenses and eye examinations. Dr. Shank, a 1978 graduate of Southern College of Optometry In Memphis, with a Doctorate Degree, also belonged to the Honor Society, Sigma Alpha Sigma, and to Beta Sigma Kappa. He also graduated from North Carolina A4T University In Greensboro, In 1971. At A & T, Dr. Shank Joined the brothers of Omega Psl Phi Fraternity, was President of his graduating class, and first vice-president of the Association of Organization Presidents (AOOP). Funeral services lor Mrs. Mary Jane Stowe Kelly. 102, of Gaffney, S.C., mother of Nathan S. Kelly of Kings MounUln, were conducted Thanksgiving Day at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church of which she was Its (ddest member. Rev. Clarence Hampton sind Rev. Stuart Kersey officiated at the rites, and Interment was In Frederick Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Kelly died Nov. 20th at 5:30 p.m. In Brookvlew House after three months of serious Ulnes.s. She was a native of Reldsvllle, S.C., daughter of the late John Pinckney and Melissa Floyd Stowe and widow of daughters, Mrs. Lenora West of Spartanburg, S.C., Mrs. Eulalia Vaughn of Dallas and Mrs. Jeneva Mathis of Gaffney; a son, Homer Kelly of Gaffney, S.C., 24 grandchUdren, S2-great- grandchildren and 41 great- great grandchildren. Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MRS. MAMIE C. WIDGEON Mrs. Mamie C. Widgeon, 87, formerly of Clover, S.C., died Nov. 8th at Mount Sinaia Hospltsd In Bsdtlmore, Md. She was owner of Riggs Lounge and was employed by Dr. Milton Isenhour. ' She was daughter of the late Sam Campbell and Lizzie Campbell of Clover, S.C. and a member of Douglas Memorial Church. Surviving are her husband, John Widgeon; two sisters. Mrs. Alice Johnson of Meu'yland and Mrs. Martha Davis of Kings Mountain; and a host of relatives and friends In this area. Funeral and burial were in Baltimore. MRS. EVA LEE SPANKLER ELIZABETH, N.J. - Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Lee Sprankler, 66, daughter of the late Andrew and Bertie Wilson of Kings Mountain, were con ducted Thursday at 1 p.m. from Smith Funeral Home In New Jersey. Mrs. Sprankler and her husband, Son Spranjcler.residet' at 1919 Barnes St. Also surviving are her son, Delaney; her daughter, Mrs. Jeannle Coleman, both of New Jersey; five grandchildren; two brothers, James Wilson and Luclo Wilson, both of Kings Mountain; and three sisters, Mrs. Ossie Mae Wilson of Waco, Mrs. Ophelia Watson and Mrs. ^ Nina Mitchem, both of Kings Moluntain. RICHARD SHANK His most recent organizational affiliations are with the Charlotte Medical Society, the American Op- tometric Association, the National Optometrlc Association, and the College of Optometrlc Physicians. His sirea of interest in optometry Is contact lenses, having done resesLTCh cmd published articles concerning the disinfection of soft contact lenses. Having attended elementary and senior high school In Kings Mountain, Dr. Shank lettered In band and four different sports (football, basketball, baseball, and track), while in high school. He Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Shank of Kings Mountain, and Is the first of four sons. Dr. Shank is a tennis en thusiast, having won numerous tournaments, likes Jazz, the (flsco scene, and Is a sports car fanatic. Dr. Shank, who is single, says he Is "glad to be back In North Carolina, and particularly Gaston, and I look forward to many happy years In this area."
