of the first Board of Trustees
Gardner-Webb College. The
totsd cost of the conference
rooms will be $60,000.00. The
$6,000.00 by Mr. Dover Is a
leadership gift toward this goal.
The Kings Mountsiin Baptist
Association took the Initiative to
begin a high school In 1008 In Its
annual meeting at the Pleasant
Hill Baptist Church. In 1004, the
Association appointed fifteen
trustees to begin the school.
Those serving on that original
Board of Trustees were: Carme
Elam, B.B. Hamrick, N.B.
Kendrick, L.S. Hamrick, Rev.
D.F. Putnam, W.W. Washburn,
L.S. Jenkins, Q.W. Kendrick,
J.M. Wilson, Rev. J.V. Devln-
ney, B.C. Borders, J.H. Qiilnn,
A.T. Mull, Q.H. Logan and Rev.
A.C. Irvin. It was not until 1007
that the dream was realized,
and a school known as the
Bolling Springs High School was
established. The school became
Bolling Springs Junior College,
Qardner-Webb Junior College,
and then Gardner-Webb College.
Providing the conference rooms
In memory of the first Board of
Trustees would be a reminder of
this significant and historic
action taken by the member
churches of the Kings Mountain
Baptist Association.
L«adershlp in the Association
is in the process of contacting
the families of these first
trustees suid giving them as
cg>portunlty to share In this
project. It Is hoped that all
families of these former trustees
will psuticlpate.

half acre lot Is adjacent to the
property of Bastslde Baptist

Be Careful
This Season
When we think ot the Holiday
Season, all the joy of this time
comes to mind: the sharing of
gifts, excltment of children, and
die beauty of a brightly or
namented tree.
Many families however, have
somewhat grimmer Holiday
memories—brought on by just
one unsafe act which caused a
needless, tragic accident.
To help you have a safe
Holiday Season with good
pleasant memories. Un

+Purchase only UL Listed
light strings. For outdoor use,
only weather proof cords and
Ugjitlng should be used. The UL
Label wlU indicate light strings
suitable for outdoor use.
-f-Check all lights carefully.
Make certain bulbs are not loose
In their sockets. Use rubber U^t
socket gaskets and replace If
needed.
Selection of a tree, whether
natural or artificial Is a crucial
matter. Artificial trees should
be labeled flame resistant.
Never put light strings on a
metal tree—this Is a shock
hazard—use only spot lighting.
Natural trees should be fresh-
deep green, strong scent, no
falling needles and trunk butt
slickly with sap. Keep trunk In
water, and check it dally.
-(-Inspect all wiring. Watch for
Insulation deterioration, frayed
and bare wires, lights with
broken or cracked sockets, or
loose connections. Unsafe
equipment should be discarded
Immediately.
-I-Watch placement of elec
trical fixtures. Keep them out of
children’s reach, and never
place them close to flammable
materlsU.
-(-Never overloaul circuits. By
placing more current on a wire
than It was Intended to carry,
overheating auid fire can result.
Look for the capacity of the wire
and follow manufacturer’s
suggested use.
+Keep the tree and other
flammable materials (mantel
decorations, wrapping
materials, etc.) at a good
distance from fireplaces,
radiators, and other high heat
sources. Also, never block exits
with the tree or other
decorations.
-(-Disconnect all lights when
working with them. Never
stretch the strings or extension
cord wiring.
-(-Always turn off decorative
lights when leaving home or
retiring. A short circuit could
cause a fire while you are away.
-(-Keep a fully-charged fire
extinguisher luutdy, a UL Listed
Multi-Purpose, A.B.C. fire
extinguisher Is practical.
