Pag* lO-UMGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-TuMdor. luly 1. 19M Lisa Ivey In Program Lisa Ivey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Ivey and a sixth grader at Central School, is par ticipating in the Summer of *80 Program at Piney Lake Field Campus at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Lisa is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ivey, all of Kings Mountain. Solar Energy Glass Set The interest in solar energy as a source of heating new homes is gaining momentum. Qeveland Technical College is offering solar energy as a scheduled course during the summer quarter. Solar energy is a four hour curriculum course scheduled for summer quarter (July 9-September 24, 1980) on Mon day evenings from 6-10 p.m. and on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. -12 noon. Persons interested in solar energy are encouraged to register for this course during Tech’s registration slated for Monday, July 7 from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The cost of this course, for in-state persons taking only solar energy is $15.00. A brok is available in the bookstore for $27.75. New students registering for solar energy are requested to fill out an application through Student Services Department as a special student. ^lar Energy (ENV 106) is a study of the practical application of solar energy. It includes the study of active and passive solar applications, heat storage, heat loss calculations, hot water heating, and space heating using water or hot air. Flat plate con centrating collectors and the generation of electricity using solar cells are also studied. Additional information is available by calling Qeveland Tech, 482-8351. Mrs. Goforth Is Hostess Mrs. H.A. Goforth was hostess to a recent meeting of Colonel Frederick Hambright Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. J.E. Herndon gave the program, Tapestry Of Service- Gardening For Conservation”. The Chapter welcomed Mrs. Ted Ledford and Mrs. Sarah Warren as new members. Mrs. Tolly Shuford, Regent, led the DAR Ritual and Mrs. W.T. Weir presented “National Defense News”. Mrs. W.L. McMackin, Mrs. Hilda Goforth, Mrs. Tolly Shuford, Mrs. C.D. Blanton and Mrs. Vida Linder gave a report of the state workshops they at tended in Lenoir. The hostess served a dessert course at refreshment time. Sorority Meets The local Beta Chi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, women educators sorority, held an ex ecutive luncheon meeting Tues day at Holiday Inn with 11 members in attendance. After a delicious meal, items of business were presented and plans were formulated for the 1980-81 year. VISIT HERE Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cole and family have returned to Tempe, Arizona after visitihg relatives in the Kings Mountain area. Superior Court Jurors Named ^ • Jurors for the criminal term of Superior Court beginning July 14th have been announced. The Honorable Ronald W. Howell will be on the bench and W.H. Childs, Jr. will be district SENIOR CITIZENS Rita and Jerry Simmons gave the program at the recent meeting of Senior Citizens at David Baptist Church. Next meeting of the group will be at 10:30 am. on July 9th at the church. USA IVEY attorney.
