KM Wins District Kings Mountain’s Dixie Youth Minor League all-stars defeated host Dallas 13-6 Satur day for the District Three cham pionship. Brent Bagwell, the tourna ment’s most valuable player, hurled a twohitter and struck out 12 for the victory. Greg Young led the KM hit ting with three hits. Monty Deaton added two, and Aaron Anderson, Eddie Moss, Derek Ware, D^e Green and Toby Deaton had one each. The Kings Mountain team, which scored three impressive victories in the early rounds, were bounced into the loser’s bracket Friday by Tryon 94. But KM managed to ^aw the bye after KM, Tryon and Dallas survived the semi-finals with one Anderson had three hits. Moss and Scott Wells two each and Toby Deaton one in the KM loss to Tryon. ★ ★ ★ The Kings Mountain all-stars opened play Monday with an 18-13 victory over East Lincoln. Scott Wells hurled the win and Timmy Goode and Eddie Moss led the hitting with three hits each. Brent Bagwell, Greg Young and Wells had two each and Shawn Smith and Aaron Anderson had one each. In second round action Tues day, the local nine outscored Bessemer City 12-8 behind a 16-hit attack. Anderson and Moss led the way with three each. Smith, Monty Deaton and Toby Deaton added two each and Bagwell, Greg Young, Dale Green and David Ayscue had one each. Monty Deaton hurled the win. With the last month of sum mer upon us, the Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite everyone to enjoy both Davidson Park pool and it’s playground facilities as well as Deal St. Pool and the park com plex. Deal St. Pool was reopened this past weekend after major repairs to the filter system, which forced its closing. Scott Cairigan of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Kings Mountain, was the 11 year old winner in the Pitch, Hit & Run District Com petition held at Jacksonville, Fla., July 26th. This event, the second stage in the national Pitch, Hit & Run program, pits winners of the recently held Local Competitions against each other. Scott is one of more than 600 youngsters who pitched for accuracy, hit for distance and ran against the clock to become eligible to advance to the third level of Competition—the Divi sion Championship. Scott’s score will be compared against the winning scores of all other youngsters in his age group and region of the country. The top two scorers in each age category will go on to compete in that region’s Divison Champion ship to be held in one of eleven Major League stadiums. The Division Championship for the Florida area will be held at Atlanta, Ga. Pitch, Hit & Run is the Of ficial Youth Program of Major League Baseball and is open to boys and girls, 8-13. The pro gram, which is sponsored as a public service by Burger King restaurants, was developed in cooperation with the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. If Scott wins at the Division level he may be off to the World Series. Out of a field of 66 Divi sion winners, the two top scorers in each age group in the nation will emerge.
