Women^s Cancer Tourney Auffust 24 At KM Course Area women golfers will tee- off for benefit of the Cleveland County Cancer Fund at a Walter Hagen Women’s Han dicap Golf Tournament Tues., Aug. 26th on the greens of Kings Mountain Country Club. Alex McCallum, local chair man of the benefit, said the win ning team will represent Cleveland County in the state tournament Oct. 27th in Pinehurst. Theatre Group Sets Meeting Kings Mountain Little Theatre will hold a regular meeting Thursday night at 8 p.m. in the Conference Room of First Federal Savings and Loan Association on West Mountain St. President Ray Holmes said that all members and visitors are encouraged to attend. Mr. McCallum said that the local tournament will be the first women’s handicap played on the local course for benefit of the Cleveland County Cancer Socie ty and urged participation from the Greater Kings Mountain and Cleveland County area. Admis sion is $10 per person. No greens fee will be charged but a cart fee of $4.SO per person will be made. All proceeds are earmarked for the Cancer Society. Reservations are requested by teams and McCallum en courages local golfers to select their team members and call him at 739-7401 or 739-7043, Golf Pro Rudy Hayes at the Country Club, 739-5871, Kay Holshouser, executive director of the Cleveland County Cancer Society or Mrs. H.O. Williams, 739-2530, the latter who is vice president of the KM Ladies Golf Association. Mr. McCallum is personnel director of Spectrum Fibers, Inc. in Kings Mountain. Vandals hit Piedmont Washerette Friday and Satur day, according to Kings Moun tain Police Department reports. Glass from eight washing machines was broken out, said police, with damages totaling $300. In another incident Satur day, thieves took a 4x5 steel bed for a stairway and a 14 foot five inch section of steel stair, estimated value $350. Ptl. Billy Benton and Reserve Officer Raeford White gave foot pursuit to suspects they saw run ning from East Side Baptist Church on York Road. The patrolmen said they observed two youths run from the rear of the church and drop a controls portion of a PA system. Church officials reported nothing else missing. Vandals damaged win dows approximately $75. Roger Hames, Route 4, Gaff ney, S.C., reported theft of 12 to 15 tapes and stereo equaliser valued at $225. The items were taken from his parked vehicle. Frances Goforth, 106 W. Mountain St., reported that so meone entered her home and took guns valued at $1430. Stolen were a .38 caliber, a 357 magnum, a 45 colt, and 38 police revolver. Michael Lewis Waddell, of 218 Chestnut St., Shelby, reported that vandals cut three tires from a 1975 Mercury park ed at Pine Manor Apartments. Baker Home Set On Fire Vandals set fire to the old Baker residence, a landmark on N. Piedmont Avenue, Tuesday night and extensive damage to two rooms and smoke damage to the rest of the three-story Vic torian house was reported by Kings Mountain Fire Depart ment. The house has not been oc cupied for some time and is to be moved to make way for the U5. 74 By-Pass in the northeast sec tion of town.
