Rock-A-Thon
Set By Jaycees
Kings Mountain Jaycees are
planning a Cystic Fibrosis rock-
a-thon during the Bicentennial
Celebration of the Battle of
Kings Mountain.
The event will last 24 hours
^ and will begin at 4:30 p.m. Oc-
) 9 tober 3. It will be held at the
Kings Mountain Depot Center.
Registration will begin at 3:30
p.m.
Project chairman Tom Franks
is lining up local talent to supply
entertainment during the event.
“We hope to have many local
personality guests at the rock-a-
thon,” Franks said.
. ^ The pledge forms for the rock-
f *a-thon are available at the Kings
' Mountain Senior High and
Junior High schools. Other
pledge forms can be obtained by
contacting Franks at 739-3601,
.^tension 436. Registration is
vnited to 100 entrants.

iky music groups interested in

I *<Franks, meanwhile, has been
named Jaycee of the Month for
August, President Allan Propst
has announced.
“He has chaired a number of
successful projects in the past,
and we feel the rock-a-thon will
also be a big success,” said Pro
pst.
Franks is on . the Board of
Directors and is chaplain of the
.local chapter. He chaired the
Cystic Fibrosis Run, Walk-A-
Thon, the Police benefit softball
game, jelly sale and planning
guide.
He was last year’s novice
speak up winner in district com
petition and will be competing in
another speakup today at a
district meeting in Shelby.
Franks is the chief physical
therapist at Kings Mountain
Hospital and serves on the Board
of Directors of the Cleveland
County Red Cross. He also
serves as trainer for the KMHS
football team.
Franks attends St. Matthews
Lutheran Church, where he is a
member of the Church Council.

GOP Presidential candidate
Ronald Reagan have been in
vited by Mayor John Henry
Moss and the 200th Celebration
Committee to be keynote
speakers during the celebration
Oct. 3-7 in Kings Mountain.
President Carter, who seeks a
second term in the general elec
tion, has been asked to speak at
the Tues., Oct. 7th “Salute To
Our Heritage” ceremonies which
culminates what is shaping up to
be the most historical com
memorative celebration in the
history of Western North
Carolina.
Former Governor Reagan has
been asked to speak on Satur
day, Oct. 4th.
Neither President Carter or
Governor Reagan have respond
ed to the invitation by the five-
state committee buy Mayor
Moss said he is expecting to hear
from U.S. Congressman James
Broyhill’s office within the next
few days on whether or not the
President will attend. Mayor
Moss said it is his understanding
that the President has made two
commitments for appearances in
North Carolina prior to the
general election in November.
Mayor Moss contacted the
Reagan headquarters during the
weekend.

new feature. Kings Mountain
Senior High News.
The article each week will in
clude activities of clubs,
classroom news, and other ac
tivities at KMSH.
Janice Scoggins, a senior at
KMSH, will report the news.
She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Scoggins and last year
was school correspondent for the
Shelby Daily Star.
Janice serves as secretary of
the Beta Club, secretary of the
Sefiior Class, is on the Moun
taineer staff and is a member of
the National Honor Society.
Her first column appears in
side today’s Herald.
