County Commissioners Adopt Bids
to government to keep this in the
closet until after elections. That
is the reason you hadn’t heard
about it.
“I hope the people of
Cleveland County have the com
mon sense and wisdom to stop
ridiculous taxation for suppor
ting this kind of stupid policies
by writing in on ballots Duran
Johnson, Bobby Crawford and
John Caveny Jr. on election day.
“If government policies aren’t
changed, this nation will fall as
sure as the tide ebbs and flows
twice in 24 hours.”
A number of other speakers,
including the group’s lawyer,
Keith Brown, president of the
N.C. Taxpayers Association,
Lx>uise Morgan, chairperson of
the Burke County Taxpayers
Association, and John Jenkins of
the Tax Action Committee of
Gaston County, participated.
The three write-in commis
sioners also spoke.
Johnson, who is opposing
Dover, said, “I can’t make you
any promises, but I’ll give you
everything I can for your tax
dollar.”
Crawford, who is opposing
Goforth, added, “I can’t promise
a miracle, but I will listen and be
fair. We have more money in the
county that we’re led to believe.
It’s time to let our voices be
heard. Some say it is impiossible
to unseat three incumbent coun
ty commissioners. But you can
nake the impx>ssible dream a
reality.”
Caveny, who is optK)sing
Palmer, said, “We’re asking now
for your help so that after we’re
elected, we can help you.”
